They are soft enough that they don't irritate my skin but firm enough that they don't cause hard pan in my shadows. Also, I have hooded eyes and not a large lid area and I really like that the bristle ends of these brushes are smaller than a lot of other brands. It allows for more control and pigment concentration over whatever specific area of my eyes im working on. This is not a "high- end" brush set but I like it better than any of my other brushes I have in the same price range.
