The weighted float and indicator are connected to the counterweight by separate cords, each cord running over a pair of pulleys. When the float is half-immersed everything is balanced. Rising liquid level lifts the float up, the counterweight moves down, and the indicator keeps pace with the float. My tank is taller than 10'. Will the level gauge still work? It will, but it won't register the level once the water level in the tank drops below the top 10'. In other words, if your tank is 15' tall, the gauge will stop reading when the water level drops down to 5' or less since it's only designed to register 10'. Review: Expensive and requires modifications - The photos and diagrams are very misleading. The photos make it seem as if without any modifications the item can sit neatly on a tank and you are all set. There are two items that need to be inside the tank, the float and the weight. For that to happen there needs to be holes put in the tank which the pictures conveniently don't show. The weight needs to be towards the center of the tank so it doesn't bang into or get caught up on the side. The photo shows that the apparatus is close to the edge which is where the outside indicator needs to be but that doesn't leave much space between the wall and the weight on the inside. This is a good system but overpriced and in need of lots of modification for most tank installs including the use of a 'helper' pulley so that the arm can extend to cover the distance needed for the inside weight and float and the outside indicator. Review: Expensive but it works and works very well - It has been a few months since I installed the Levetator on our two storage tanks but the product is well designed with good quality materials (stainless steel bracket.) A tip - where they knotted the cord together, do not undo that - the knot is in the correct place. It takes a bit of fiddling to get the thing configured for your tank depth, but it's not a big deal. Do you make a smaller size?** A: No, but this gauge will work for tanks between 0-10’ tall and can be modified for taller tanks prior to shipment. **Q: This involves drilling a hole in the top of the tank. Do you have a seal or cover for that hole? Doesn't seem right to leave a hole open to elements.** A: We don't offer a seal or cover for the little hole.
