The silicon feels pretty thick so I think it will provide the surface underneath with good protection. Its nice and heat-proof, I've "wiped" the hot solder off the iron a few times on one of the shaped ridges and its was undamaged (not sure its good practice but it was helpful) Any solder that dropped onto it just rubs off when cool… The little tray shapes in the edges are useful for parts / tools. The magnets are real though I’ve not needed to stick screws or anything to them yet.
