Thomas & Bond Lightweight Fireproof Safe 13.5x11x10
I bought this because I can no longer pick up my Sentry safe. This is nice and light weight. I have not set it on fire or put it in water but I trust that it is what they describe it to be. Appears to be good quality etc. As for sturdiness, it seemed kind of floppy to me but I also purchased the insert for hanging files and that gave it much more structure. Definitely worth the money and I recommend this item.

Lid with Velcro-like secured flaps a bit unwieldy to open.
Nice fire resistant case. It is very sturdy and fits in my fireproof safe perfectly with a 1/2 air gap on all sides. I bought the hanging file box with it, which fits inside giving even more structural rigidity. It has an inner lid with a zipper closure and an outer lid with a continuous flap that protects the top on 3 sides from water penetration, the fourth side being connected to the case. The flap is held to the case sides by Velcro-like strips which bind very tightly making the flaps a bit difficult to open and annoyingly hard to close evenly. The design, however, makes it very unlikely that water can get inside the case in the equally unlikely event water even got into the safe. I think this combination is about as safe an environment as I can get for home storage of my important documents.

Looks Like It Should Work
Needed new home safe. Was put off by bad workmanship reviews on Sentry safes. Decided to try Thomas & Bond. Exterior has a rubberized coating & should be water resistant in case of fire. Interior is Nomex-like and should resist heat. The weak point is the zipper, which seems like it would disintegrate in a fire. However, the top flap seals with Velcro around the sides and should offer sufficient protection for the zipper.Safe is roomy, lightweight and has a convenient carry handle. However, you do need to spend extra and purchase the hanging file folder liner as sides do not have any support whatsoever. This makes the safe work great. I'm glad I bought it and hope I never need it!

Great alternative to a traditional safe
When you think of a secure, fire and water proof box for your precious, indispensable documents, this is probably not the first product that comes to mind. However, after inspecting this and trusting my own documents inside, I’m inclined to say that it should be considered as a serious contender and competitor for the traditional safe. The first and foremost observation is that it is in no way a rigid container. Neither is it floppy or milk toasty. The fabric is made a very heavy duty Cordura type of material with a special fireproof/waterproof coating. The “lid” is secured by a robust zipper and a form fitting flap that extends a couple inches or so around the sides and cinches down with some heavy duty hook-and-loop fasteners (aka Velcro). It will not hold its roughly cube-shaped form by itself, but when you place a box inside of approximately the same dimensions as the protective case, you will have a nice, reasonably durable/stable box-like container capable of holding not quite a cubic foot of your important paperwork.Another thing it will not do is prevent outright theft. This is in no way a traditional safe. Sure, you can place a small lock on the heavy duty zipper, but a sharp knife will quickly have its way in spite of the thickness and quality of the material this storage case is made from. So, the million dollar question: Would I trust this nifty little enclosure to protect my priceless documents in the case of a flood or fire? The short answer is “yes”. However, although the design claims to be waterproof, that really only extends to water from a sprinkler system or perhaps an inch or two of standing water. I will not be tossing it in the river, fishing it out and expecting my paperwork to be dry and intact. Otherwise, this is a solid buy and a trustworthy method for the protection claimed.

Excellent product!! Worth the money.
I’ve searched extensively for a protective. sturdy container, but one that would fit into a filing cabinet drawer. Finally found just what I looked for. And it has NO chemical odor at all!! It has amazing large capacity to hold a lot, but still fits in file drawer.I’ve had others that were either totally floppy or a nuisance to zip open. This is definitely 5 stars. In fact I’m buying 2 more.(And best of all, the company included info that quarterly they donate a portion of their sales to American Red Cross.)

It’s so close but….
This was a hard decision but I ended up returning the bag and it’s matched file box holder. The holder is perfect for the bag, fits well and is plenty rigid enough to hold quite a few hanging files. The bag itself is the perfect size if you need to store binders, or in my case, my travel files. The construction of the bag left a little to be desired. The zipper, as mentioned in other reviews, is plastic and light weight. It’s not going to hold up against heat, much less fire. The bag is lightweight because it is so thin which leads me to question any claim of fireproof. I can’t see it maintaining integrity in any direct flame for even 30 seconds. The water resistance claim is believable. Between the silicone coating and the cover that velcros securely over the top three sides, I think water would just slide off the case. No bag without a rubber seal is going to stay secure if submerged so don’t even go there. I really disliked the silicone coating. It attracts and keeps every piece of lint or dust around. And I could not get around the fact that, in order to pick the bag up to move it, it must first be zipped, the top flap must be secured on all three sides (the fourth side is part of the bag) before the ONLY handle, which is on the top of the flap, can be used. Side handles, a shoulder strap would have almost made it worth keeping. If you are going to keep this bag packed, near your exit, ready to grab and go, it might work for you. I need to access my files, work for a bit, move the bag, eat, move the bag, work for a bit, move the bag, sleep,, pack the bag, leave, unpack the bag, access the files, rinse and repeat. Guess I need a case with a latch or two and hopefully a strap that will be a little easier to load, unload and move (similar to what I now use) - and have some decent fire protection.
