Use a large and charged battery
You must use a large battery, not small ones and it should be mostly charged or it won't get very hot otherwise works great, maybe not quite as good as a corded super convenient and works for shrink wrap electrical wiring just fine.

Great Heat Gun… After a Little Drama
Okay, let’s talk about the Ryobi 18-Volt ONE+ Lithium-Ion Cordless Heat Gun (P3150). When it works (which it now does), it’s an absolute tool dream—lightweight, powerful, and perfect for a variety of tasks. The fact that it’s cordless is a huge win for anyone who hates dealing with tangled wires while trying to heat up materials or strip paint. It’s quick, efficient, and I’m honestly loving how convenient it is for my DIY projects. But here’s the catch: when I first received the heat gun, it was like the universe decided to play a cruel joke on me. It didn’t work. At all. I thought, “Hey, no worries, it’s Ryobi, I’ll just charge it up and get to work.” Spoiler alert: It didn’t work after charging. I checked everything, fiddled with it, and was ready to throw in the towel. After a frustrating exchange process (which, let’s be real, was not exactly fun), I got a new one. This one works like a charm. It heats up quickly, has the perfect temperature for a variety of uses, and I’m back to loving Ryobi as much as I did before. It’s the kind of heat gun that makes you feel like a pro in the garage or workshop. The ergonomics are great, it’s comfortable to hold, and it gets the job done without breaking a sweat. But, yeah, the first one didn’t work—and that little hiccup did take away from the overall experience. I’m knocking off a star for the hassle I had to go through, but now that I’ve got a working one, I’m totally satisfied. So, if you’re in the market for a reliable, cordless heat gun, just make sure you get a good one from the start, and you’ll be golden. 4 stars—would be 5 if I didn’t have to deal with the initial hiccup, but once it’s working, it’s perfect.

Does not work as advertised. Take your money elsewhere.
The Ryobi portable heat gun seemed to be a fantastic purchase. I learned quickly it does not even work on self healing car wrap. The heat from the gun is not even adjustable and even after running the gun for a while, it doesn’t get hot. At most you are looking at 200-300 degrees in heat.I thought maybe I’m expecting too much. I tried using it with connectors for wiring. It was not strong enough to heat shrink the connectorsI am a big Ryobi fan and have multiple products. I am highly disappointed they would release a product that doesn’t perform as advertised. I hope this is not the new quality control moving forward. If it is, I will have to switch to another brand. If you’re looking for a reliable and portable heat gun, this is not the one. Highly recommend for DIYers and professionals alike look elsewhere!

Great for heat shrink tubing. 10ga wire and smaller.
Brought this used. It was missing the concentrating cone. Thankfully I bought it for shrink tubing. Its great as it heats the back side as well as the front at the same time. 5 seconds to warm up and it doesn't get too hot,( no burnt heat shrink). No cord. Never too hot. Fast.I'd buy it again.

Good value
Bought this as a gift. Ryobi usually has a quality for what you are paying. Don’t think it would last in construction for very long but great for homeowners
