Beachbody Tony Horton's PowerStands

OK...let's put this idiot debate to rest. I own both the old stands (two sets of them, actually) and I just took delivery of the new ones. We're about to go to Charlotte for Christmas and I wanted to take my push up stands with me. But the old ones are big, bulky and heavy. The new ones are, as you'd expect, lightweight and if you disassemble them, you can easily pack them in a suitcase. I've also bought a LOT of push up stands over the years and stability is the #1 feature I look for. I had had more than one set of stands twist in my hand and it ain't pleasant! The two photos show both side by side. First off, this is not cheap plastic. This is high quality - appears to me anyhow - material. And the assembly is not some cheap "screw-the-handles-onto-the-base." The base has a receptacle into which the handles fit firmly. Then a screw, from the bottom, secures the handles to the base. The hand-holds are big and fat - just the way I like them. If you're buying them for your four-year-old, forget it, their hands won't fit around them. The foam padding is firm yet forgiving. The old ones I have are, clearly, a Version 1 model. They are no doubt sturdy - made of metal, but I'm beginning to sense handle fatigue in one of my sets as it squeaks and I can feel looseness in the handle. The handle is just held on with a wood screw through the vertical metal support. As much as I use them, there is no doubt they will fail at some point. I hope I'm not using them when it happens. That said, they would probably be easy to repair. The old stands are about 1-1 1/2" higher than the new ones. So if you like to go really deep on your pushups, you're out of luck. But they go deep enough for me, so there! Yes, they are expensive, but that's how Beachbody got to be a multi-billion dollar company out of another college student's dorm room. They don't make cheap stuff and you DO get what you pay for. I like these new ones so much I'm buying them for my boys (and their wives) for Christmas. CAVEAT: I will warn you, there are some real low-lifes using Amazon to push inferior clone crap and also jacking up the price to as much as double what Amazon normally prices. You have to make sure you read the fine-print carefully and make sure you are buying from Amazon and not some third-party rip-off. I just say that because I've been burned a couple of times. (I've also started emailing Amazon whenever I see that behavior and would recommend you do the same.) Those who claim to have bought cheap stands may have been taken like I was. But as far as I'm concerned, the stands I got are great and I'd recommend them to anyone looking for a stable set of stands that look to me like they will last a long time!

Don't listen to the reviews of customers who hate this product because it's not the original metal stands. These are better!! They are not made of cheap plastic! The plastic is very heavy duty! They are stable and strong even before bolting the handles to the base (and they are bolted metal to metal). The handles are big and thick (bigger than the metal ones!) which allow you to build a strong grip. The edges are rounded instead of thin and dangerous in case of dropping on you or someone else (like the metal ones!). The base is large and makes it impossible to tip over like other stands on the market and has a rubber nonslip sole on each base unlike the metal ones! The handles are a little bit shorter than the metal ones, but you wont/don't need the little bit of extra height. They are ergonomically designed to make the push-ups easier on the wrist and hit the muscle groups in such a way to get the best out of each push-up. Don't listen to those unappreciative reviews. Do yourself a favor and get a pair. These are the best push-up bars ever put on the market. Ali

Maximum weight for use < 300 lbs. These sell at Beachbody site in 01/2014 for $39.90 PLUS $12.95 shipping which I knew. It you have AMAZON PRIME (which everyone should) you'd get free shipping so the price is the same. I prefer to buy when AMAZON is handling everything as they know what they are doing. If you pay shipping then make some price comparisons. When I bought it in Jan 2014 it has been years since the plastic it seems replaced the metal ones shown in the picture the day I wrote this. The plastic ones are well made great and no one should get bent out of shape. The are more balanced and high and angled just like you'd want. I have found no better designed stands. If for some reason I find a need for a different shape stand then I will get them too but the new and strong plastic ones are very big circles with non-slip bottoms that keep your balance. There is no way it can wobble and fall over and break a wrist like some of those little ones. It comes with 5 screws (one spare) and a hex wrench. Attaching the handles to the circle bases takes about a minute and you are ready to go. I am very impressed with it.

Yes, they are not the (apparently) superior metal ones that Beachbody used to sell. But, after trying to find a pair of the metal ones used for a few weeks, I gave up and bought the new plastic ones. They are still an excellent product. They are extremely stable and comfortable, and seem to be built very solidly. I'm taking off a star for how expensive they are, but I'd buy them again. These are the ones to get if you're going to be doing tons of push-ups.

I saw other reviews complaining that these newer PowerStands were plastic and not metal (as with the original stands). But after considering Beachbody and Tony Horton’s reputation for quality products, I decided to order them. I’ve been using them for a couple of weeks, and they work great. They seem to be made from a PVC-type of material and are solid & durable. The large circular base is stable and allows for wide extended arm pushups. They are strong enough to hold my 170lb body weight when doing Hip Flexor Spits. When compared to the original metal stands, the new rounded pipe-like design appears safer than 90 degree corner of the old metal stands. Also, the new stands are closer to the ground, and the less elevated design better simulates natural pushups, as your body is not as angled. The price is a bit steep, but after searching, I could not find any other stands that are ergonomically angled and have a large round base (that does not also swivel).

First off, as many have said, they are PLASTIC, not metal stands. Also, they are really expensive given the fact they are plastic. That being said, I love these stands. They are well put together, very rugged and sturdy. I love how wide the handles are...if you have wrist issues like me, you'll love these things. Takes all the tweaking out of your wrists, and obviously greatly increases range of motion so you can do some really deep pushups.

I have been working out and using pushup bars for over 30 years, have used most on the market but none compare to these. I was reluctant to buy them because the reviews said they were plastic. I bought them anyway and so glad I did. I can reassure anyone who buys these will not be disappointed. They are very sturdy, have a large handle which I love and a very good high quality rubber grip which is much more comfortable than any other pushup bars I have used. I can't imagine ever going back to any others.

I also have the metals ones everybody raves about. These are superior and very sturdy. Better engineering and are the right height above the floor for a total nose to floor push up (the metal ones were too tall and risk shoulder injury). ABS is a very durable material. Sure it's not steel, but you're not using it as a shovel, knife or a blowtorch so there in no abrasion, cutting or melting. Which are the enemies of polymer. They are also built properly. The screws are not holding the load. Although very strong, as somebody mentioned there was always the possibility of metal shear with one of the screws on the metal versions. Which could lead to unfortunate consequences. I feel better using them.

I’ve been using other push up bars for years, but these power stands are far superior. The padded handles are comfortable and thick, and the circular base feels strong and sturdy. These stands provide excellent range of motion and puts no added pressure on your wrists, making it easier to reach your maximum reps. They may cost a little more than other push up bars, but in my opinion they are well worth the money.

Sturdy materials even though plastic, very well balanced, definitely worth the extra investment made!

Shipment was great and order was as expected. The stands are plastic but I'm a heavy guy and haven't had an issues with stability or cracking and breaking. My only feedback is that they are expensive and I'm not entirely sure I could justify the cost difference of these versus other, less expensive models to someone comparing other brands.

These are great. Easy and quick to put together and good construction. I think they're expensive for what you get but they certainly do the job.

They are nice to have, if you have a whole lot of push-up to do. Provide good stability and will help you to avoid unnecessary fatigue.
