No white dust! Breathing better.
Easy to use, low speed is barely audible. Even medium speed is pretty quiet. Seems well made. I bought some replacement filters so I'll have them on hand. It's not "automatic" meaning no humidity sensor, but it's not really needed. I bought a Antonki 2 Pack Room Thermometer-Hygrometer Indoor Humidity Meter. They work great and are pretty accurate. I'm also using a two part additive to the water, bacteriast & demineralizer. I bought that at Lowe's for about $11.00, a LOT cheaper than anything on AZ. I'll post some pictures and review in a few weeks. A few more notes, I have a few air purifiers and the filters didn't seem to last long, maybe they were removing the white dust my former ultrasonic humidifiers (that went to the ewaste recycle) even though they had demineralizer filters. Ok, you read this far, one IMHO ultrasonic humidifiers fault is the humidity sensor is in the same unit as the humidifier, so sure it thinks there is plenty of moisture. Placing the separate humidity sensor away from them gives a better idea of actual value. :-) Update: week 2. Using the water treatment mentioned above and I clean them every week and have found no mold or anything else growing. Actually, other than the filters having some mineral buildup, they are pretty clean. I soaked the filters in white vinegar/water for about 30 minutes and it removes most of the buildup. Hope this helps...

Adds humidity and easy to use
This is a great humidifier. Works well in our master bedroom. It has improved the dryness. It is very easy to fill up. It is also great as 'white noise'. I had purchased a different model but returned it for this one. I highly recommend!

Easy to fill and clean. Good for small room.
Works well in a small bedroom. Noise lever on low is acceptable for sleeping. Like the evaporator type since it doesn't spew chemicals into the air. Using it with tap water and haven't had any mineral depost build up yet. Seems well made. Easy to fill and clean.

Easy and does the job
Works well. Does what it’s supposed to. Easy to clean and filter media is easily available. No leaks, fairly quiet.

I've bought so many humidifiers. This is the most reliable
Long story, but the takeaway is that I really like this humidifier. I had a white one of these that someone gave me for free. I had no idea what a great thing they'd given me. I liked how it worked, but didn't like that it had a "filter" (really, more of a sponge) and I didn't like how huge it was. So I gave it away and bought a newer-sleeker looking humidifier for myself. My new replacement humidifier was the ultrasonic type (ultrasonic are the other main type of humidifier: they vibrate imperceptibly and the vibrations send a fog of aerosols into the air, which you can see and is pretty). It was compact, it was all black with no blue/white/whatever to make it stand out. I loved it. I loved it for about three months until it broke. The handle came off while I was carrying the water container back from the sink. Water everywhere, gruesome scene. So, I bought another humidifier (my third). Again, it was the ultrasonic type (because those tend to be the cute, compact, black ones). . . and again it broke after a few months. Not so dramatically this time, just quietly started leaking one day (didn't leak when I first refilled it, no. It waited until I'd left the room to begin leaking on an antique table. Oops). So, $150 later, I swore that I would never buy another humidifier again because the whole industry is garbage and all their products will betray you after the return period closes. Bummer. I lived in dry, cracking squalor for half a year before I finally broke down and went looking to buy another humidifier. Low and behold, my old trusty humidifier was back, in black (or nearly so -- the water bin is a blue stripe on the side). Yes, it's large. Yes, it has a filter that you have to replace (less often if you do it right). Yes, you can't see a pretty fog of water coming out of it to prove it's working. But I love it. It's simple, has less moving parts, and doesn't break. My parents have been using one of their own for a year and it's done great by them. Tips: - If there is water in the bottom tray (touching the "filter"--which is actually serving more as a sponge), keep the fan blowing. Don't let the filter sit in water. This will generally prevent the filter from getting moldy, so you won't have to replace it very often. - If there is no water in the bottom of the tray (the water has run out) -- stop the fan. Otherwise the fan heats the filter so much that the filter begins melting. Especially if the fan is on the highest level (I haven't tested, but I think maybe it doesn't get so hot at the lowest level). - This does get a little tough, to hit the sweet spot. It means when I leave the house, I either make sure the water is filled all the way and the fan on or that the water is gone from the bottom tray and the fan is off. - Open it up occasionally and look at the filter. You'll notice that it does yellow a little from when it gets too hot from the fan. I think this is OK. If you check it semi-regularly, you'll be able to see this and know the difference between this and any ick that would require you to replace the filter. - If you use an ultrasonic humidifier, you have to be careful about what surface you put it on because that surface gets a little wet. This humidifier is a mist humidifier, so the effect is slower but its physical reach is larger. So, that means that you can put the humidifier on any surface and it won't get that surface wet. - I use tap water.

Excellent humidifier, but you have to understand how to use it.
I bought this a few months ago. At first I didn't like it and was ready to return it. Then I figured out how to use it. This is an evaporative humidifier and works in a completely different was from the ultrasonic humidifiers I had in the past. There is a large, cylindrical filter inside which absorbs the water and then evaporates it into the air with the aid of a fan. The fan is clearly audible but actually works well as a white noise machine. In our bedroom, which is about 25' x 15', we go through about a gallon of water every 12 hours. Here are some pearls about using this unit: -It MUST be on a level surface. At first I had it on a towel over the carpet in our bedroom. This caused the water to be unevenly distributed in the base which in turn led to the filter not being properly moist. -The filter must be wet at all times. In an ideal world this would happen without any effort on the part of the owner, but that is not the case here. Sometimes the top of the filter dries out, resulting in less evaporation/less humidification. The manufacturer (and other users, in reviews) suggest flipping the filter every time the tank is filled. I find that it's sufficient to do it when the tank starts to empty more slowly (i.e., I don't have to fill it as often), which is about every 5-10 tankfuls. -Sometimes the filter gets so dry you have to remove the filter and moisten it under the faucet (this is especially true if the water in the tank runs out. There should be an automatic cut off, but there isn't). It's a bit messy in that you're not supposed to wring out the filter, so it drips all over the place. -The filters discolors from minerals and particulates in the water. This is normal (hey, it IS a filter) and does not interfere with the operation of the unit. One could easily argue that using a humidifier shouldn't require such a long to-do list, and I wouldn't argue the point. Having said that, once you get the hang of it this unit works extremely well, humidifying the air without coating the furniture the was ultrasonics do. I highly recommend it.

Defective Humidifier
Reviews should allow a zero rating. That is what this experience deserves. The humidifier did not work. Follow the instructions, fill the tank, soak the filter, set unit on base, plug it in, and nothing. No lights, no hum, no air flow, at any switch position, nothing. Tried several different outlets, still nothing. Checked power, yes we have electricity. The unit is so dead it must be something simple. Take unit off base, find safety switch on bottom, activate switch manually, and the unit runs fine. The problem is with the plastic base. The plastic is either malformed or warped. Tried setting unit on hard floor to better support the base, still nothing. Pushed down to make sure unit is fully seated on base, still nothing. The defective base/switch is a safety feature. If the unit should ever get knocked over, the switch kills all power so someone doesn't get electrocuted. That's a good thing, but nothing I've tried will make this unit work with the base that was provided. Feb 13 - Contact KAZ customer service. Yes, it's some outfit called KAZ, not Honeywell. Got an automated reply saying it will take 1-3 days for them to reply. Feb 19 - Got a reply from KAZ with the usual platitudes. Rather than a solution, this message is asking for more information such as model number, date code, and mailing address. This is all the same information they needed for the warranty registration. They already have the information but it was easier to just reply with the requested info. Feb 23 - Got a reply with a return merchandise authorization number and instructions for returning the defective item. This message also indicates a shipping label will be provided in a separate message. Feb 26 - Finally got a message with a link to print a shipping label. Feb 27 - Shipped defective item to KAZ. Mar 5 - Received confirmation that defective item was delivered to KAZ. Mar 12 - It's been a week since the defective item was delivered to KAZ. We have received zero communication regarding the status of our returned item or any replacement. It really shouldn't take a month to resolve a dead-on-arrival device. Update 14 MAR - Replacement WHITE unit was delivered last night. KAZ did tell me replacement humidifiers were only available in the white model. The new model seems to work as it should. It used a little more than half a tank of water overnight, running on medium setting. Maybe the factory defect is only occurring with the black model. If they had sent me a black one and it worked, I might have added a star or two. Based on this experience I have to recommend not buying the black model.

Easy to maintain and keeps humidity at comfortable levels
We bought this product to support our whole house humidifier in the coldest, driest weather. We are using it in the master bedroom (approx. 12 x 20 with a vaulted ceiling). On the medium setting, it raises the humidity about 10% and runs about 20 hours before needing a refill (we use reverse osmosis water). The unit is easy to set up, refill, and clean (top rack dishwasher safe) and is no louder than a small fan. Occasionally there is a slight gurgling sound as the water level drops, but it's certainly not annoying. I'm a light sleeper and really don't notice anything. We have all noticed the improvement in our skin and noses, plus our cats are happy to be rid of all the static. We are very pleased with our purchase and highly recommend this product.
