Sterling Silver HistoryExperts believe that silver alloy, used today as sterling silver, originated in continental Europe in the 12th century. Pure silver was found to be a soft and easily damageable material. When combined with other metals, most commonly cooper, it produced a tougher material that could be heavily relied on. Throughout the next few centuries, sterling silver was used as currency and for household items. It was often used as silverware and became the material used in a proper table setting between 1840 and 1940 throughout the United States and Europe. Because of this popularity, silver companies began to grow. During this craze, companies began to experiment using sterling silver compositions in jewelry, as it was a material that was easy to mold into intricate designs and gave a luxurious look with its metallic finish. Today, sterling silver is widely used in all kinds of jewelry styles and shines as beautifully as other precious metals, with the benefit of affordable pricing.Sterling Silver CompositionWhile pure silver can be combined with many different types of metals, sterling silver is created when combining pure silver with copper. Sterling silver jewelry can be composed with different amounts of copper but is most often seen with the .925 stamp, meaning that the composition is of 92.5 percent silver and 7.5 percent copper. This has been found to be a good combination for maintaining the silver's durability without harming its sparkle.Caring for Your Sterling Silver JewelrySilver should not come into contact with harsh household chemicals such as bleach, ammonia, or chlorine. To avoid scratches, store silver in a lined jewelry box or pouch, as it is prone to tarnish as it naturally reacts with sulfur or hydrogen sulfide in the air. Cleaning and wearing silver jewelry regularly will prevent this and help maintain its shine. Immediately upon noticing any discoloration, use a gentle polish made specifically for removing tarnish.

Pretty, light weight, good size -- but not sterling silver. Possibly plastic with silver paint?
These earrings are very pretty, light weight and just the right size (for me). However, they are not sterling silver as advertised. They are super bright and shiny so I decided to add some depth by blackening them with Liver of Sulfur and then polish the top parts. That normally leaves the grooves and crevices black which adds depth to the piece. However, these earrings were completely unaffected by the Liver of Sulfur. Other pieces placed in the tub reacted to the Liver of Sulfur appropriately so I know the mixture was working. The earrings just weren't silver so they could not react.Given their light weight and overly shiny appearance, I suspect they're plastic with silver paint.Nevertheless, I still like them and will wear them on occasion. I just would have made another choice had I known they weren't sterling silver as advertised.*** UPDATE (just over a year later): I increased my rating from 3 stars to 4 stars because I have found myself wearing these earrings more than I expected. I still have no idea what they're made of, but they look good when I want a bright pop of shiny silver color. I also like how light weight they are so they don't pull down on my ears. These earrings are not what I thought I was buying when I ordered them, but they've kind of grown on me. Considering the price, I guess they're okay since they still look the same a year later and I actually do wear them on occasion. So one star bump up. ๐

They turned out to be everything I loved. I put them in and haven't taken them ...
I ordered one set and turned around and ordered a 2nd set immediately for a gift. They turned out to be everything I loved. I put them in and haven't taken them out. They've not tarnished or even turned out to be something they're not advertised to be. (I ordered a "sterling silver" necklace from another company which is marked 925 silver and it's NOT silver...all the color is coming off and it's like copper or something underneath...GRRR) ...and I went to buy a 3rd set for my sister..but they'd sold out. I'd buy them again...and again...just wish they'd not sold out.

Good earrings, poor shipping
The earrings are very pretty and I was not disappointed with the design or quality. However, the packaging was a mess. The box the earrings were shipped in was beat up and split open on one side. I had planned to give these as a gift, but guess I wonโt unless I put them in another box. No one wants to order a product and it comes looking as if a train ran over it.

Everyday Favorite
I decided on these hoops because I really like the filigree look. I considered what some other reviewers said about the filigree being hard to see while the hoops are being worn, but I thought I'd take a chance. I'm so glad I did! These are now my favorite everyday earrings. I don't sleep in them, but wear them just about every day of the week. They weigh enough that they seem sturdy and substantial, but they certainly aren't too heavy while being worn. They are very comfortable and go with everything. I would recommend these hoops to anyone and will be purchasing additional pairs to give as gifts. At this price, they are a steal!

Easy to wear and comfortable!
I've ordered several pairs of sterling silver earrings in the past from Amazon. These are durable and the fasteners are great. I use to take them out nightly, but no longer do. They are best I've bought from Amazon.

Very nice gift!
Purchased these for my mother & she is very pleased/wears them often. They have not turned color nor do they make her ears itch (sensitive skin)

Very detailed
I like the size, weight, and style of these earrings. They are my new favourite Summer earrings. ๐ I recommend wearing a silicone earring back on these earrings in order to secure them better.
