Pharmacy Management Software for Pharmacy Technicians: A Worktext 2nd Edition

This book comes with a CD that includes the Visual SuperScript pharmacy management software to be used in conjunction with the workbook.The software is only compatible with Windows XP, Vista, and, Windows 7. So if you're using a Mac OS X then you're out of luck unless you're running Windows in bootcamp or as a virtual drive. The software isn't the most advance piece of software and it's design leaves a lot to be desired, but this is a comparable experience to what you'll see in a real pharmacy. The software also does allow you to print prescription labels to be applied to drug bottles for practice, but the workbook does not include the label paper.The workbook is basically a set of step by step instructions on how to use Visual SuperScript, which is a pharmacy management software. Although it's really easy and simple, it's a great tool and provides experience which is great as you will use similar systems in an actual pharmacy. The information is provide in a clear and easy to understand instructions, the book is in color, and there are also pictures to help show what you should be doing. The pages are also perforated so you can tear them out, but they are not hole punched, so if you want to put it in a notebook, you'll have to hole punch them yourself.The book is separated into five sections:Community Pharmacy Practice: (Adding Insurance Plans to Database, Entering a New Prescription, Obtaining a refill Authorization, etc)Institutional Pharmacy Practice: (Entering New Intravenous Orders, Entering Total Parenteral Nutrition Orders, etc)Reports: (Control Drug Report, Daily Prescription Log Report, etc)Assessment: (Community/Institutional Pharmacy Comprehensive Exercise)andAppendices: (Sig Abbreviations, Community Prescriptions, Nonsterile Extemporaneous Compound Prescriptions, etc)Overall, it's a good workbook and software and will give you some experience in entering prescriptions and using pharmacy software in general. By no means is it a complete solution for pharmacy management software, but I don't think anything could be as every pharmacy uses different software. The price is pretty high, so if you can find the book with CD used, definitely jump on it.

This will be a good resource for people with a good working knowledge of computers, or someone who has seen pharmacy management software before. As a self help product this will leave something to be desired.Pros:- Goes through each exercise- Great to self explore to see the various uses and forms for pharmacy software.- Some explanations in the book do a good job of going over why forms are set up like they are, or what you will expect from the patient.- The book covers both retail and clinical practices.Cons:- The book makes many assumptions about what the user knows, and other times explains mouse clicking repeatedly.- Since it isn't being used in a classroom setting there will be times that information isn't provided in the book.- The software itself is outdated, and sometimes unstable.Bottom line; don't expect this to be your only resource if you need to study pharmacy management software, but it gives you access to a lot of material that can be explored with internet assistance.

Good thing it is a light book. Most pharmacies have different software and codes anyway. This just gives you an idea of the basic structure the programs will have.

The book is good, just that! Checking with your school supply first before you purchase because of all a technician school, those give to student free PDF file and software.
