cool watch, good price
Ok, just got my prospex Seiko watch today. Overall, i wish these military style watches were all brushed stainless or some hard coated black with brushed finish. In the picture the metal has this lead look that looks cool, in real life all the sides of this watch is polished, the top ring facing up is polished. The hard lex crystal is very clear, almost too plasticky looking, but seems durable. The band i thought was all nylon, but it has a leather bottom and a strip of leather down where the strap holes are. I dont see how people are fraying these bands like right after they get it. But like others have said, it's a little smaller (face and band) then i thought. Looks big in the picture but is smaller then all my watches. I have an astron, 2 seiko diving and they're bigger compared, but i wanted a decent and cheaper everyday military styled watch but didn't want to go el cheapo or crazy expensive. Seiko seemed a good medium as i always relied on their diving watches so i know they're reliable. But dont get me wrong, the watch overall is nice looking and a decent size, i'm sure i'll get compliments on it but overall face and strap size is smaller then i wanted. Also shinier then i wanted, but they had another military style that has orange numbers hands, but that was a little too loud. At least this ones a little more subtle. They have a black version of this watch too that looks good too, but again, i think is the same size. I had no trouble setting anything on the watch. it's typical Seiko. pull the crown one click, change date. Pull the crown 2 clicks, change the time. Pull the crown one click then hit the bottom button, changes alarm time. Pulling the crown one click and clicking the top A button and bottom B button synchs like the 2nd hand and the small 60 second chronograph dial. That dial you see on the top left, turns the compass dial. But also to mark it for elapsed time. It also has compass markings where there are websites that teach you how to do a reverse sundial to calculate which direction is which based on the sun direction. Basically you can stick a stick in the ground or just use a tree shadow, you know the direction of the shadow is directly pointing at the sun. now point your hour hand at the direction of the shadow which lines up with the sun. South is between 12 and the hour hand, so if it's 3pm S would be like around the 1:30 right there inbetween. Now say you were lost at 8am, you point the hour hand that's at 8 at the sun, south is somewhere between 8 and 12 like near the 10 oclock position would be south. Lots of websites can teach you this. if it's day light savings it's 1 oclock rather then 12 oclock. [...] But overall, cool looking watch, i'd say looks better on smaller and med sized wrists. If you have large arms, get a bigger watch.Update: ok been wearing the watch all day, the band has gotten much more comfortable, was pretty stiff for about 2 hours then started to loosen up. After playing with it for a few hours, i figured the large seconds hand is for timing, so the top small dial, will record up to 60 minutes, the large regular seconds hand is what counts the seconds up to 60 minutes and resets. The smaller seconds dial by the 9 is the normal watch seconds counter and just keeps clicking around. I wish the smaller seconds was the timer and the watch large second hand just functioned as the normal seconds. From what i'm seeing is if you hit the top A button it will start moving the large seconds hand (stopwatch function), the minutes small dial keeps track, and after 60 minutes, the timer stops, the minutes is now pointing straight up, the large second hand stops and is pointing straight up. So basically, the small dial "IS" your normal seconds counter. I guess it's ok, just need to get used to it. So for those of you who like having the large seconds hand as the actual seconds sweep, then look elsewhere lol. Oh and i tried the alarm function. It's a little funky because it's a 12 hour ahead only alarm, so it's only for the occasional use as i wouldn't want to set it every day, althought it's easy. And the alarm was adequately loud, maybe not if you're wearing it and your hands are underneat the blanket, then it can be hard to hear, but i haven't had any problems with loudness if it's sitting on a table. It is higher pitched as some some have noted.

I get compliments on this every day.
For $175, this is the best watch I've ever bought. It looks as high quality as watches that cost 10-20X the price. I LOVE that it's solar driven; that's one less watch for which I'll have to change batteries. Some people don't like that the "second hand" doesn't move. It's actually the stop watch hand. The actual second hand is a small dial at the 9 o'clock position. It's fine for me. I also love the compass bezel. It's the only watch I've seen with that.

Great looking watch
Great looking watch! I have a small-ish wrist, and with the current trend going toward larger watch faces, this is probably the largest watch size I'd consider buying. I might upgrade the band to a stainless steel one in the future. Solar is the way to go for quartz movements, I don't know why anyone buys regular battery operated watches these days.

Not worth the price
It keeps time well, but most watches can claim that status. The "luminous display" might as well be "glow in the dark!" for like kid's toys.Overall, I've owned watches from Casio and Timex for a third of the price that delivered more value.

Watch looks nice.
The compass is fake. It does not work. It is only for show. Watch looks nice.

Seiko make excellent watches and this is no different
Seiko make excellent watches and this is no different.A quality and stylish design with all the expected functions in a polished stainless steel case and black fabric/leather strap. An all round fantastic time pieceIf the case was a brushed stainless steel and the compass rotating bezel had a little more tension on the adjustment crown it would be perfect.
