A permanent part of my kitchen.
This Single-Burner Reversible Grill/Griddle is perfect for a variety of meals and is a breeze to clean. Whether you're cooking bacon, hamburgers, eggs, pancakes, steak, chicken, or just warming tortillas for tacos, this cast iron grill/griddle is perfect. It also makes a great toasted sandwich. It distributes heat evenly and is the perfect size to feed two or more people, depending on what you're making. The fact that it is a single-burner product is something that I find invaluable. It doesn't take up much space and even looks quaint sitting on my stove in my kitchen when its not in use. My friends love it and I always tell them that for something that can last you forever if you take care of it, this cast iron grill/griddle is priceless.Although it is heavy, you more than likely won't need to move it much. I keep mine on my stove top at all times and just warm it up when needed. I rarely have to move it for cleaning, as I can often just wipe it down to remove any remaining food particles. When it does need a deeper clean, warm water does the trick. The only aspect of this cast iron tool that I have the slightest gripe about is that when cooking food that has juices or grease (i.e. bacon or a steak), there is no easy way to pour them out. This grill/griddle is difficult to move when hot (any time I move mine I have to use two hands to keep it level, which when hot means two oven mits) and when pouring any liquids there is no spout or way for the liquids to be easily removed without it draining out and running down the underside of the grill/griddle. For this reason, I often stick to my Lodge 10.5" cast iron skillet when cooking bacon. This is strictly because I save bacon grease for cooking with later and the Lodge skillet has a convenient pour spout I can use to pour the bacon grease into a container. If I didn't use bacon grease later on, I would have no need to switch to the cast iron skillet for bacon. Because this is a particular situation and the grill/griddle is otherwise invaluable, I do not feel the need to dock any stars as part of this review. The grill/griddle is advertised as coming pre-seasoned and it arrives as such. However, I find that my cast iron products work better and are more non-stick when I add seasoning on top of the factory seasoning. To do this, I do the following steps-- Preheat oven to 450 degrees.- Wash cast iron product with warm water only.- Dry it well with a cloth or paper towels and then place it on stove-top. Turn on the burner and let any remaining moisture evaporate.- Rub the entire cast iron product with oil (I use Canola oil and it works very well). This includes the inside, outside, and the handle. Then, wipe off as much residual oil as you can. It may seem that you're wiping all of the oil off but this is not the case. The cast iron will still season well, however if you leave too much oil on the cast iron it will become sticky and clump during the baking/polymerization process.- Place foil on the bottom/bottom rack of your oven (this catches any oil that may drip from your cast iron while it is baking).- Place your cast iron product upside down (for this grill/griddle I place the grate side down) and bake for 1 hour at 450 degrees (this amount of time and the high heat allow for the oil to polymerize and become slick, which is what gives the cast iron it's non-stick property).- Remove and let cool.I do this process 3 to 5 times after receiving a new cast iron product and it always works extremely well. You don't need to do this entire process often, maybe once or twice every few months after the initial seasoning. Cast iron will continue to collect layers of seasoning as you cook with it, so cook with it often!Overall, this Lodge Cast Iron Single-Burner Reversible Grill/Griddle is a fantastic purchase and a great tool for your kitchen. If you love cooking with a great product that produces great tasting food, this cast iron product is for you.

Exactly what I was looking for
I only have nonstick pots and pans so every time I wanted to have a nicely cooked steak or sear fish, they never came out right. I finally decided to try this out because my parents have the longer version of this and my dad’s steaks always come out perfectly when he uses his. I can confirm that this product was very easy to use and that I had somewhat nice grill patterns on my steak because I kept lifting the meat up the check. This was the perfect size for my gas stove and it is very heavy and sturdy so you don’t have to worry about this not being viable in the next few years.I did have to watch YouTube to figure out the best way to clean and treat this because I was afraid of it rusting, but it really isn’t too complicated.I just wish I would have purchased this sooner.

Improving this Fantastic Grill/Griddle
The only improvement needed for this unit is good, secure handles. The build-in ones are designed as they are because the unit is reversible and must allow for the unit to be reversed. Their design provides the perfect platform to secure very stable handles.Since this unit works very well on my two glass top convection stoves, it is required that the new handles do not touch the stove top. It is also desirable that the new handles don’t get too hot to hold. Those new handles are Irvine 4” 4WR vice gripe pliers installed upside down as shown in the photo. Other vice grip pliers may fit, but it is a requirement that they don’t touch the cooktop when in use. The 4 WR pliers satisfy that requirement. They also keep cool while cooking so you can use them while cooking, or just use them for clean up after cooking. It is necessary to make sure that the pliers are very secure and don’t move around at all. The 4WR has a wire cutter at the back of the jaw. The proper way to install the 4WR is to set its jaw opening so that moderate pressure will be applied to the grill handle when the jaws are closed. Make sure the wire cutter is in firm contact with the grill handle when the vice grip is closed. That will make the vice grip very stable and it won’t move at all.I clean the grill by adding a little water to a 300+/- degree grill and “deglaze” the bits from the grill using a silicone spatula. Then carry the grill to the sink and pour the contents down the drain. I wipe the surface with a paper towel and the surface is clean. I return the grill to the stove and heat the grill till it is completely dry, and then rub just a little extra light olive oil on it. After that, I turn the stove off and let the grill cool on the eye before storing. The new vice grip handles make all these operations, including the moves, very secure and safe.

Double duty
I looked at several different grill pans and griddles, and finally decided on this one. I was tempted by the larger one, but decided that it might be too big. This pan is just a tiny bit smaller than what I expected from reading the dimensions, but overall it is the perfect size for me and my two kids (we may eventually outgrow it!) I love the fact that it is reversible (and bought the panini press to go along with the grill side). It cooks four smallish pancakes at a time, and it was perfect for frying my from scratch English muffins.I will note that the griddle side had a couple of small rust spots along the edge of where the label was attached. Knowing that spots like that will disappear over time and being too excited to start using it, I decided not to send it back and wait for a replacement (and am not detracting a star, either). I am looking forward to many years of use from this grill/griddle!My only complaint is that it does not heat as evenly as I would like. It does help to start heating it LONG before you plan on using it, but even on my largest burner I have a hard time with the food in the center getting browned much faster than the food towards the outer edges. The grill side is slightly hard to clean, but after a quick soak in hot water, an old toothbrush is the perfect tool for tackling any stuck on food.

Excellent Size ... Heavy
Size is perfect (easy to handle) and works on my induction cooktop (flat side down)

Well built
It's well built and heavy but not practical at all when come in to use, the side which is exposed to heat or flame loses the seasoning after few couple of minutes apparently switching both side simultaneously is merely impossible. My suggestion is to buy it only during price fall.
