Comes up short for a $100 camera.
The overall build quality of this license plate frame style backup camera seems good, but I'm completely disappointed with the image quality. Night vision works great, but during the daytime, anything that's a shade of green is displayed in pinkish-grey tones (see photo gallery) while the rest of the colors are OK. I raised this issue with tech support and sent them photos comparing what this camera shows vs what colors are present in a given place as captured by the simple camera in my phone. They initially said green colors should not show up as pinkish-grey and that I could return the camera under warranty. However, after paying for professional installation, I was reluctant to go to the trouble to remove this camera even on my own. After more discussion with tech support they eventually implied I shouldn't expect much with this model and that I should get an even higher end model such as the VTL375HD for "the best picture quality." I might expect this level of quality from a $15 backup cam, but there's plenty of regular cameras these days for $100 that take *excellent* pictures and I expect better from a simple backup camera at this price point. Ultimately, this camera does the job so to speak, but I will probably end up swapping it out for a camera that delivers quality inline with the price. One other note about backup cameras in general. I have a full-sized SUV with tinted windows, so any kind of backup assistance is extremely helpful. I used to have audio-only backup sensors and when those failed I decided to go with a backup cam. After using the cam for a while I realized it's really only useful when backing *into* a parking space in a straight line where you really need more assistance to stop before hitting something, but not so helpful for back *out* of places, as you still end up needing to check your position via windows and mirrors more than with the camera display.Overall --Pros:-The build, i.e. feel, of the unit is pretty hefty.-Night vision works well.-Overall resolution and display quality is OK.-Camera has survived several drive-through car washes with high pressure water.Cons:-Terrible color accuracy during daytime.-Overpriced for overall display quality.**December 2012 Update**-Although the specified operating temp for this camera is -4˚ F~122˚ F ( -20˚ C~ + 50˚ C ), it has intermittently failed to work since the temp has dipped below 30*F where I live. The temp has been anywhere from 10 to 30*F and sometimes the camera will show video and sometimes I just get a black screen. Reliability returns once the temp gets back above 30 it seems. Removing another star off the rating for this camera. I simply would not recommend anyone pay $100 for this backup camera.

Not if you live in Texas
I had totally forgotten about a law passed nearly a decade ago here in the Lone Star State that prohibits the state name from being more than 50% blocked by the license plate frame. This camera almost completely covered it. Not wanting to risk a ticket I returned it. All of my research points to this camera being a great one, but I wasn't willing to risk the ticket when I put it on top of my license plate and saw how much it covered up.I ordered the VTL375, which oddly enough pictures a Texas plate showing the name being unobscured by the camera. :)

Picture looks good. I guess it would depend on the type of stereo you invested in. It has a light blurr at times not sure if it's do to connection or car movements or actual camera. Keep in mind the the video will be backwards for whatever reason. Really sucks actually, so I recommend you reverse with out looking at the screen and turning your head as if you didn't have a camera and only use the camera to see how close you are to an object because it gets really confusing. I actually think it could be a safety hazard.

pefect product
I have had this installed for 6 months and love it.very good picture on my pioneer avhp4400bh.It has night vision and it works great!I take my truck through a automatic car wash you know the kind you drive in put the car in N and it pulls you along.Well I always turn on my camera and watch the car behind me(no reason its just fun to do) so i would say it is very waterproof as it still works perfect i would buy this again any day and would be willing to pay more if need be to get it.

Works Great
I bought a 2006 Trailblazer with factory tinting. I couldn't see a thing at night to back up it was so dark in the back window. Talked my husband into installing this backup camera. Hooked it up to the new pioneer DVD receiver that I also bought for the truck. Looks Great. Works Great. Now if it is dark, I can see behind me. We even use it in the daylight as an extra precaution.

VERY TINY wires and you have to be VERY careful when splicing them because they break easy because the gauge wire is SOOO thin
Only downfall to this is the power & ground leads…. VERY TINY wires and you have to be VERY careful when splicing them because they break easy because the gauge wire is SOOO thin, otherwise its great..!!Purchased 2 of them, one for my 240sx and one for my frontier..

Great device, just plan your install carefully.
Giant pain in the button to install in my girlfriends car.NOTE: do yourself a favour and check if you can access the back of the license plate mount easily BEFORE you buy this. The bolts go through the plate frame and the back its go on from behind. We weren't thinking when we bought it, we never really thought about accessing the bolts. We would have removed the Bumper, but two of the integral bolts securing it to the vehicle were behind the wheel incense plate. So, we could either have the plate frame on her car and y installing it with the Bumper attached, or we could return it.We installed it. Because of the minimal space, it was a lengthy, frustrating process. The actual wiring was easy. So was aiming the camera and using it. It does work quite well. The installation will vary for each vehicle though. On my Jeep, it wouldn't have taken me more than an hour, including wiring.Would recommend.
