Baroque: Theatrum Mundi. the World as a Work of Art

Spectacular!
I was a bit hesitant to invest a hundred bucks on a book that would necessitate my adding another room on the house to accommodate it. Glad I did. This book is a real treasure. In years past these oversize productions just didn't measure up. The photography always appeared grainy. Ullman seems to have put that problem to rest. The photography in this back-breaker is breathtakingly clear and the choice of images - inspired. Without reaching for the thesaurus I'm going to run out of superlatives - and all of them deserved. Lacking the funds to zig-zag across Europe this has to be the next best option. Makes the price seem a bargain! This large format lends itself so well to the subject at hand. The cavernous church interiors are displayed to their full advantage and staggering beauty. No detail is left unseen. Sitting in the pews of those churches must have provided those early attendees the closest experience this lifetime could afford of heaven. As one whose mind is easily distracted during the celebration of mass these architectural jewels would render the matter hopeless. Yes, a hundred bucks is serious money, but this book could easily justify twice that price. I may have to mount wheels on its carrying case and park it in the garage but its worth the inconvenience. I have every intention of purchasing the companion volumes in this series. You see, I have a two car garage.

Excellent beyond words
I just received the book although it was late by 4 months but it was well worth the long wait. The presentation was excellent , the Colours and printing was brilliant. The selection of paintings, fresco was marvellous which I have never seen before in other books of the same subject matter . I also love the large format of the book . I have also recommended to some of my friends to acquire the books and all of them agreed and bought the book through amazon . I am so looking forward to see the frescos and paintings this summer when I visit Europe . I hope the writer and the publisher would look into publishing the subject on rococco and chinoiserie on their next project .

Beautiful!
Everything to love about the Baroque period, I only wish it spent a little more time on palaces. There are many more that arent covered in the book.

Worth every ounce
How much more pleasure and insight can an image of a baroque interior generate if you enlarge it by, say, four times? Much, provided that the enlarged photo retains the color and resolution of the smaller one. This book is arrestingly beautiful: left on a table, it draws in even the casual passer-by. Even the places that you have experienced before stun you anew by their expansive sensuous beauty. Yes, the volume is huge. It is not an item you can tuck it into your briefcase: at sixteen pounds, you can hardly carry it. The size is justified though: the quality of the images--both the artistic and the reproduction quality--demands it. If you can get your hands on this tome, do it.
