Stray Light Analysis and Control

There is a lot of good practical knowledge of what stray light is, how it impacts an optical system and how to supress it. It is difficult to find good information on stray light analysis and supression. The author has managed to present many of the principles of stray light in this text rarely accessible outside of direct work experience. My only complaint is there is more the author could include that would be highly valuable such as quantifying the impact of stray light on image quality. However in all fairness this ascept stray light is highly dependant on application, can be difficult to quantify simply and generally obscure even to experienced optical engineers. Overall a great start to an important topic. I hope the author continues to expand this excellent reference.

This book was well thought out and (unlike many other stray light texts) was actually readable and understandable. It covered the basics, and included enough radiometry and optics background so that when it came to the main topic the reader was well able to absorb the information. The coverage of differing size distributions in particulate scattering (a topic I had previously found very obscure and confusing) was covered in a straightforward and understandable manner. I highly recommend this as an advanced undergraduate or graduate text, or for engineers coming up to speed in the field.
