You get what you pay for - great starter set!
The tools are thick, which makes them sturdy and forgiving. It also means that the parting tool takes a lot more material than you might otherwise want. That's really the only tool that is affected by the thick steel of the tools. I figure I'll just grab a different parting tool for when I want to take less material. All in all, I was very pleased with the quality of this set. It has all the basic tools my turning instructor says you need along with one other that I think will be useful in making a few cuts easier than using a gouge. Usually when you get a "bundle" that includes "beginners" tools they end up being complete crap. Kudos to Wen for NOT doing that to their customers.FWIW most of the tools I purchase are DeWalt. If I can't get a DeWalt version, or if I don't want to invest much (usually when I think I will only get occasional use out of a tool) I buy Wen. They don't make "cheap" tools, they make "basic" tools - high quality, low price, only the features you need.

The best starter set.
After having the chance to try these out, I can confidently say this is the best starter set of lathe tools you can buy. The tools were sharp and worked great out of the box. I was particularly impressed with the roughing gouge. It's nice and beefy and had no problem rounding an old chunk of 4x4. I was less impressed with the parting tool. It's functional but the quality seems no better than the one that came in my super cheap set that came from the place that sells super cheap tools. But all and all this is a great set and I recommend it. And it even comes with a nice wooden box to hold everything.

Case was busted, tools look good
The case is falling apart, I didn’t buy this for the case but it’s not usable. The tools feel solid and I’m excited to use them on the WEN Lathe I have arriving soon.
