Excellent performer as a low-noise, long-run, mic cable
We bought this for use as a permanent, built-in, long-run mic cable. It has to be plenum-rated because it runs through the "wild" air return spaces of our church building. The mic is used to pick up the sound of the church bell, and since the mic is inside the outer steel siding, we have to run the gain pretty high to get enough volume through the sound system inside. Even with a cheap $10 microphone and the high gain setting, we have no problem with AC hum or other electrical interference on that line. For that reason, I'd say the cable is well-shielded.Other "plusses" for this particular cable are that it comes from Belden, it has a durable outer jacket,, and is fairly easy to work with when attaching connectors.I would highly recommend it for permanent installations in plenum or wild air return situations, but not for stage use (too stiff) or where you don't need it to meet fire codes, since you probably could get by cheaper with non-rated cable. The Star Ratings included a line for "Sheerness". What is that?

Best Audio Cable 40+ Years Running
We used thousands of feet of 8451 to wire up new radio station studios back in the 1980's and it had been around forever even then. This is not a soft and flexible microphone cable (like Mogami, for instance) - Belden 8451 is meant for permanent, high-quality installations. Whereas you might take a cable like Mogami on the road with you, and wrap it around your arm in a loop like an extension cord when packing up the stage, 8451 is much firmer cable, and virtually indestructible. And by the way, you want 8451, since it's stranded cable and thus more reliable than the Belden 8450 product, which is solid and more finicky. Highly recommend, and being able to buy it in 100-ft lengths is great.

Stiff, thin, quality materials!
Make sure you know what you're looking for first, but assuming you want a stiff, thin cable for long runs, this is probably as good as you'd ever need. The rubber insulation is sturdier than you'd think: surprisingly hard to cut. Love that the internal wire is fairly stiff: really saves time soldering.

Belden quality, maybe a little less plyable than I would like.
Nice quality cable. A little stiff, so might be better for semi-permanent applications, like internal rack wiring or pedal boards. I would not recommend it for drum looms or stage runs, though the cable is certainly quiet enough if the jacket was a little more flexible.
