Ge 26.7CF French door refrigerator SS

D.O.A.
First, I DO NOT own this refrigerator. After doing a lot of research, I think it may be a great refrigerator but I will not be buying it. Why, because the water filter (only available thru GE) run about $50 plus tax! With a 6 month filter life, it will cost roughly $110 per year to keep this thing operating. I am all for clean water but I think that this filter is way overpriced when compared to other filter brands (and even other GE models). Assuming the refrigerator lasts for 10 years (seems like all the life you can expect), you will have paid an additional 70% for this model or any other GE French Door unit. At that price it is NOT a great purchase.UPDATEYou can use a by-pass, Part # WR02X11705 saving the cost of this expensive filter, if you already have filtered water in your house.UPDATE - DOAWell unfortunately I own it now. The refrigerator did not cool. Was at 60 deg F when delivered and was still the same after 24 hours. Called for GE service. Told I had to wait 5 days. There goes $300 worth of food. After 4 days, called again to be sure service was set up. NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They did not have any GE service people in my area. I guess Seattle is not a location that they service. Was told that a 3rd party would called within the next 72 hours to "set" up an appointment. Told them not to bother. Demanding replacement under warranty since it was less than a week old and never worked to begin with! This is absolutely ZERO customer service. Will let you know the outcome.

Drawers are a bit flimsy, but we’re happy with our purchase.
Overall, very happy with this purchase. This is our first time buying a fridge with water inside, and I like it. Button is kind of hard to hold down when you’re filling something big though. The wide bottom produce drawer feels a little flimsy, like I can feel it bend a bit when I’m pulling it open. My only real complaint about it is probably unique to me and not anything they need to fix, but I wear thick soled flip flops all the time, and the freezer drawer is at the perfect height to smash my toes when I pull it open. So I learned real quick to stand far back when pulling open the freezer drawer. Other than the drawer seeming a little on the flimsy side, it’s a solid purchase.

Julius's Problem
I don't receive my Refrigerator until next week, but I felt I must post this due to the inaccuracies in the two previous reviews. The issue Julius was having with his unit, was not related to the refrigerator, but to the bypass filter plug he used. he used a plug that while it fit his refrigerator, didn't have the chip necessary to activate the refrigerator so it would run. The owner's manual is very clear about this. A current model GE refrigerator will not run unless the filter or bypass plug with the proper chip is installed in the unit. GE now installs filters with chips that are programmed to show a red light every 6 months when they should be changed. The proper bypass plug has a chip that contains no time information but activates the circuitry in the refrigerator. The plug Julius bought, sells for $4.88 on Amazon. GE sell it for $3.25 without shipping. The proper plug, PN WR17X30044, with the chip sells for $17.00 at GE, without shipping. Amazon does not carry this plug.Refrigerators can be set up and loaded as soon as they arrive in you home. Twenty four hours for proper operation is not a requirement for a newly installed refrigerator. In fact, this GE model has a setting for newly installed units, called TurboCool. That setting causes the refrigerator compressor to activate and the fans to turn on at high speed. The fresh food temperature will then run on its coldest setting for an 8 hour period or until TurboCool is turned off.I am downgrading my rating by one star due to the requirement of having a chip installed in the filter or bypass plug. This precludes the owner from using less expensive filters. I don't need a filter because I have a central RO unit. GE's instructions say that when an RO unit is used, the refrigerator filter should NOT be used.Edit - Installed Yesterday. Started making Ice Cubes within 6 hours. Runs very quiet. The temperature seems to be very even. Very large capacity. So far, I luv it.Edit - I have now had this refrigerator for 5 months and the more I use it the more I like it. A neat feature is the door ajar alarm. It's gone off twice since I've owned it. This unit does everything better than my last refrigerator, a Whirlpool of similar size with the same features.

Refer to owners manual before start up
My comment here isn't from ownership of this particular model but rather in response to the previous reviewer with an unfortunate experience. This as with any newly delivered refrigerator to your home, is not to be powered on for at least twenty-four hours after positioning up right; to insure that the refrigerant is settled. The user manual explains this to avoid potential damage to your refrigerator and voiding of the warranty. If you're paying for installation and hookup, insist that the work be done after the twenty-four hour power off/settling period from when the refrigerator is stationed. My four star rating of this item reflects my opinion of its features and likelihood to perform satisfactorily when installed as prescribed.

Great refrigerator/freezer
We love our fridge! Great storage options and works very well. Our first one arrived and would not cool down. We tried going through GE but they wanted to fix it (it was going to be a major overhaul) which would have ended up with us having a refurbished fridge for the price of new! We contacted the amazon seller and they were very gracious and gladly took it back and sent us a new one (that works!). We greatly appreciate their customer service! Sadly we cannot say the same for GE.
