Gorgeous Images, exceptionally written
This book is exceptionally well-written and a great mix of Master’s paintings and step -by - step instruction. As someone with a fine arts education and a lifetime spent painting in oils, I recently picked up watercolors and got this book for some guidance. I am so happy I did. can’t recommend this highly enough.

Lessons from the Masters
I've tried to paint watercolor in a classical manner. Here is my answer! The process of painting with watercolor is broken down to avoid the frustration of expecting too much all at once. I am confident that I can work through what the Japanese call "Shuhari", and slowly but surely become the watercolor painter that I would like to be.

Practical guide to how the masters did it!
This is a handy guide that covers some of the techniques that painters has historically used based on the Tate’s superb collection and on the turner bequest. Really enjoyed it!

beautiful, thoughtful book filled with great information about techniques ...
An inspiring, beautiful, thoughtful book filled with great information about techniques and historic methods. Some of my favorite artists - who doesn't love to learn more about Turner's watercolor practices? Mr. Smibert's examples throughout are wonderful. An excellent companion to the earlier How to Paint like Turner.

Highly Recommend!
I really love this book... Lots of insight into the paintings of past masters as well as clear step-by-steps. Tony Smibert is a gifted artist in his own rights! Highly recommend!

This a great book. It is about the history
This a great book. It is about the history, tradition and beauty of watercolour. It comes from a great source and is a welcome relief from the regular how to books out of the market. If you are into this medium you will find the contents rich in technique and an insight into the evolution of watercolour painting.

Book title should reflect the content "Tate Watercolour Manual" it does not
Pages of this book have been lifted from the book "Turner's Apprentice A Watercolour Masterclass" by one of the Authors Tony Smibert. Tony Smibert is an Acrylic/Gouache painter some of the examples can only be created using opaque paint (Which Watercolour is not) . Tony Smibert is one of the authors of this book.OK it's not plagiarism as it was originally written by Tony Smibert, but I expect to find original text in a book not just a repeat of what he wrote in another book. Especially as it is off topic. Nothing to do with watercolour being Acrylic/Gouache paint medium mentioned.I was rather disappointed to find references to Acrylic/Gouache paint in the Tate Watercolour Manuel a medium I have no interest in.Initially I thought the book was well written but progressing through it I found it was a waste of time and money.
