Windmill Trekker Stormproof Lighter (Black Smoke)

Need to do a better job on the cap design.

The ignition switch is a little too close to the actual flame, so you have to be careful in how you hold it when lit.

I purchased this lighter to be a go to lighter to keep in my pack for day hikes, just in case. However, it just does not function well. I followed all the directions and just can't get it to light most of the time. It may be the altitude I live at, 7,000 feet but, my hikes are often to 10,000 plus feet. It does say "Not recommended for use above 10,000 feet" but it should function at 7,000 feet. I think a Zipo (lighter fluid) lighter would be my first choice, but because they can dry out, I would keep a cheap Bic-type (butane) lighter for a backup. Perhaps even a magnesium-steel fire starter kit backup would be good. Fire is the most important survival tool. This lighter just does not cut it, at least at high elevations. So if you can't depend on it for survival needs, what good is it?

I am pleased with this lighter, I fill it every other week and never fear running out of fuel. It seems tough and I recoomend it.Thor
