Hypersonic and High-Temperature Gas Dynamics (Aiaa Education)

Fantastic
Prof. Anderson's textbooks artfully blend the technology, experiments and history behind aero. Much of hypersonic's basics were laid out in the 1950s to 1970s, well before the age of CFD. This book walks you through the approximations and techniques of that era, all still in use today, and then steadily pulls in modern computational approaches. Final portion of book tackles high T gasdynamics. The book is mindful that everyone starts off as a student and as an outsider relative to the hypersonic community. Also: 1) Watch his youtube videos which step through an earlier edition of the book. 2) Bertin's Hypersonic Aerothermodynamics is also a great complement. 3) NASA and DTIC websites offer a lot of relevant info.

Exciting introduction
This is my favorite Anderson text, next to Modern Compressible Flow and Computational Fluid Dynamics. Both are 5 star texts. There are a surprising amount of typos in the text. Just be careful. I found them because I parsed the text carefully during my outlines of the chapter material. You find about 1-2 typos per chapter.Looking at it in front of me, it's a beast. I did not formally cover the first 445 pages of Hypersonics but I did cover the last half of the book while studying High-Temperature Gas Dynamics. The high-temp sections offer a very good roadmap for learning. All of the topics are brought together very well during this portion of the text. The information on Hypersonics appeared exhaustive. If it is recommended for hypersonics, I would get it. It covers inviscid AND viscous hypersonic flow in parts 1 and 2. Part 3 is high-temp. This is an excellent INTRODUCTORY text for graduate level students. The author does recommend many texts that will allow the reader to delve further into the subject matter.

Classic Anderson writing!
If you have other Anderson books, you will feel at home with his style. This book is a great reference for hypersonic flows and has high temperature gas dynamics as well. It has served me well for my graduate aerodynamics class.

Anderson Quality
Always loved the format of Anderson books. Can't go wrong with a passionately written book on a very complex topic.

A Good Reference
If you like J.D Anderson JR's writing style and want to learn more about Hypersonics and the issues it presents this book is a good reference. Not perfect, but very good.

Another great book by Anderson
Another great book by Anderson. Very clear and concise. The binding always falls apart on these AIAA published books though.

molto completo
