Great device for reverse engineering RF signals!
I use this strictly with SDR#. If you plan to use this for development purposes, DO NOT INSTALL the software that comes with it! Also, turn off all network connections so Windows Update doesn't try to install drivers for you. Instead, plug it in and let it fail to install drivers. Then run the ZADIG app that comes with SD# (you will need to right click and run as administrator). If you don't see 'Bulk-In, Interface (Interface 0)' in the dropdown, select 'List All Devices' under 'Options'. Select 'Bulk-In, Interface (Interface 0)' and click 'Install Driver'.You can now choose the source 'RTL-SDR (USB)' in SDR# and beginning listening/viewing. I was able to easily capture signals from some remotes I had broadcasting at 433.92MHz and reverse engineer the transmission for use in an Arduino project.

Lots of fun for a great price!
Awesome toy! Well I wanted something that would receive VHF / UHF and this thing seems to cover them very well. I found an adapter that goes to a BNC http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009G1T7BW?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00 which works great. There is ton's of software out there for my PC and my Android phone. So far I have used this with ADSB , Trunking police scanner, VHF, UHF aircraft frequencies, spectrum analyzer, FM radio, and some lower frequencies for VOR's that my handheld radios won't pick up. I'm amazed at all the things you can do with this. I suggest you search and read lots to find all the capabilities of this RTL. The included software is useless in the USA, and don't install the included driver as it will not work with the SDR Sharp programs etc. I'd suggest starting at the SDRSharp page and download and install those first. I of course didn't do it that way and had to uninstall the driver and software a few times to get the other programs to work correctly. I also have this working on my Android phone with a spectrum analyzer, ADSB, and tuner frequency scanner. The included antenna is ok if your outside and works well for ADSB. For VHF, I just use a magnet mounted car antenna which I have on my work car. I also have lots of antenna's to use now with the BNC connector.

SO SO for price and construction
Gave this one a middle of the road 3 stars. It worked OK but the resonator had quite a deviation on start up until I can only assume it reached operating temperature. I'd consider paying a few bucks more for one of the higher rated units. This one also has the odd ball PAL RF connector. If you want to check out SDR on the cheap it's OK. However if you even think you will be serious about monitoring broadcast RF there are at least a few better units for a few bucks more.

Works perfect with audacity
Using this for SDR. Works perfect with audacity. I mainly use it for 315 or 433 MHz signals. The signals are recorded perfectly with SDR software. Radio stations also come in very clear. I didn't use the included software or the remote - being as I don't need or care for that aspect of product - but the receiver works perfect for inspecting signals. The antennae is nice and has a magnet to hold it tight on a metal surface (avoid getting to close to hdd/sdd or other magnetic sensitive devices).

Beware of driver
If it wasn't for B. Sutton's review, I would have returned it since the drivers did not work. The included driver works with the included HDTV software, but I was not able to detect any TV stations. SDR#, with the correct driver, allowed me to catch local FM radio stations and see activity in many frequencies. My laptop is too slow, so plan on getting a faster processor as the SDR# uses a lot of CPU processing.

Read the reviews of type of use and drivers.
Still trying to get it to work. I made the mistake of installing the driver without reading the reviews that say don't download the driver. Now every time I plug it into my laptop the computer thinks the rtl-sdr is a keyboard. I had one of the RTL-SDR from another maker and had zero problems getting it to work it was plug and play. Maybe when I find and remove all components of the driver I might be able to get it to work.

Worked for a few minutes.
This device worked fine for about a day and a half. I had used it for a total of 10 minutes over that time and then the device completely quit working. I tried it on several systems with different operating systems and different SDR programs to get it to work again, but the results were the same every time. I returned this product and bought something else. Spend a few more dollars and get something that will last.

This is a lot of fun for the price
This is a lot of fun for the price. I don't have any HD channels around me so I didn't use the software provided.Look online to find how to install the SDR Sharp (SDR#) software to really get value out of this. It allows you to use the SDR for a spectrum analyzer.
