Good quality, easy installation
I have a safe that uses this model of S&G lock. From the time I got the safe, the dial felt loose, like the mechanism had sloppy clearances. It also occasionally required 2 or 3 tries to get it open. I didn't think too much of it, since the safe is from the manufacturer's least expensive line, but recently it wouldn't open at all. After multiple tries using variations on the combination I found via web search, I finally got it open. Removal of the old lock mechanism and installation of the new one, including setting the combination, were easy, as other reviewers note, following the procedures in the S&G video on YouTube rather than the included printed ones. I was pleased to find that the new lock was much better made internally than the original one, despite the identical model number, with a number of nicely machined brass parts that were plastic in the old one. Consequently, the new lock feels like a combination safe lock should: solid, smooth, and precise, and it opens every time on the first try (assuming I don't muff the combination).

New, works great
The supplier is one of the big and highly reputable names in the locksmith industry. +1. The unit appeared new, however, it was definitely not an unopened "as shipped" product since the production date and lot number on the box (which was factory labeled for this product) did not match that on the lock. I received this product on 9/1/24, and the factory label on the lock indicated it was manufacturer in 7/24. The paint was barely dry on this thing - definitely new stock. I replaced a 28 year old LaGard electronic lock that was working perfectly on one of my ordnance lockers, however, the age of that unit made me want to swtich. The description is just plain wrong. First, the specification sheet mentions one 9V battery. Nope, this is an entirely mechanical lock with no battery. The description mentions this was tested against expert manipulation for 20 hours. Nope, at least not the industry standard testing. This is a group 2 lock. Manipulating ratings are: Group 2 - 15 minutes (by an expert, you are not going to be hit by this except in an Oceans 11 style job) Group 2M - 2 hours against expert manipulation Group I - 20 hours against expert manipulation Group IR - Same as group 1, but resistent to X-Ray analysis of the wheels. Reduced service life because wheel are some sort of plastic. The group 2 is the overwhelming most common safe lock, until you get into UL TL rated (TL15, TL30, etc.) safes that require a 2M. These are the kind of safes that generally cost over $10K and meet insurance industry requirements for jewelery stores. My install went easy, but had to reshape mounting holes on the dial ring because the mounting hole locations in the door were out of spec by 1/10 of an inch as there was more tolerance for the electronic lock mounting. This is NOT the fault of the lock.

Fits Costco Winchester small 7 cu ft safe
Relatively easy install and combination reset following the Sargent and Greenleaf 6730 video on youtube. Pretty smooth considering the price, but not as smooth as the higher end machined satin chrome dials. Fit well as it should for this universal lock. Functions exactly as I expected. As for the cheap safeโฆ Replaced electronic lock on Costco Winchester WC-7-11-E (I think) Easy swap of sticky 10 year old LaGard electronic lock (turns out the locking bar was binding on swing bolt causing failure to open, had to hold lever toward close while entering code to get bolt to unlock) Peel the old decal off with a spudge if you donโt want to damage to old lock. There are already 4 holes drilled to mount the dial, but only 2 are tapped. You will need a 8-32 tap as youโll need the other 2 holes. Only 3 of 4 1/4-20 holes are tapped for the internal lock. You may need to grind or file the bolt bar to make a little clearance for new bolt

Great lock, with some caveats.
Having now completed not one but two installations of this lock on different gun safes, I feel pretty qualified to give a review in case it might help someone out there. Similar to some other reviewers, I found the included instructions for setting a combination once the lock has been installed to be virtually worthless. Do a search for "S&G 6730 combination lock installation" (video, dated May 3. 2012) and follow the instructions you find. In fact, this is a great video to watch in general just to see what you are possibly getting into, if trying to make up your mind about attempting this yourself. Okay, now let's talk more about installation... In my particular case, I have fitted this lock to two different gun safes, both of which were purchased from TSC. The first safe was a Cannon model 756030 that came with a Securam electronic lock. While this lock has never given me any problems in the 5 years I've owned the safe, I have always worried about it. The installation of the S&G 6730 on this safe was about as straightforward as could be expected, since the electronic solenoid module inside the safe has the same "footprint" as the 6730 lock body. Literally just unbolt the old and bolt in the new (same screw thread). The electronic keypad is attached door by two screw studs that, after being removed, are exactly the right spacing and thread to mount the 6730 dial ring. After that, follow the instructions to cut the dial spindle (which is pretty straightforward), put the relocker plate back on the bolt body, and you are done. Took me all of 45 minutes, going slow and careful. The second safe I have installed this lock on was a Winchester TS-9-EFL. This particular safe came with an unidentified electronic lock, which may or may not be a LaGard (I've read that it is in some forums). In any case, after just over a year this lock decided to suddenly not work, in the form of half the numbers on the keypad not responding. I finally got it working again after removing the battery and figuring out how to fully discharge a capacitor (and, a lot of stress). At that point, I just left the safe unlocked and ordered this 6730 kit from Amazon. The installation on this safe, however, turned out to be nothing like the Cannon. On the Winchester the electronic solenoid module was a completely different footprint from the 6730 lock body, there were no existing holes on the door face for mounting the 6730 dial ring, and the location of the pass through hole for the wires (through which I wanted to put the dial spindle) wouldn't put the 6730 lock body in the right place to interface with the linkage inside the safe door. However, after studying things for a while, I finally ended up drilling and tapping 4 holes inside the door to mount the lock body, 2 holes on the outside of the door to mount the dial ring, used the existing wire pass through hole for the spindle, and fabricated a new metal piece that I bolted to the internal linkage to serve as the interface with the 6730 bolt. This took me about 4 hours to complete, including head-scratching time figuring it all out. In any case, this was a considerably more complex installation, certainly "possible" (at least for the person with the proper tools) but a lot more involved. So, trying to wrap this up...this S&G 6730 lock kit seems like totally the way to go, if like me you have had problems or just worry about an electronic lock. Just be prepared that there might be more or less work involved depending on what safe you are trying to install it on, and lastly, don't even try to use the included instructions for setting the combination.

Sargent and Greenleaf 6730-100 Safe Lock Kit
I have a Costco 19ECB Bighorn safe that came with an electronic lock. Being paranoid, every time I opened the safe I was uneasy that it would not open and the electronic lock had failed. To be truthful, this never happened over a three year period. It always opened as it should. I still knew that because it was electronic, it would probably fail eventually. After reading numerous reviews and installation procedures for the Sargent and Greenleaf 6730-100 mechanical lock, I went ahead and purchased one. The company has an excellent YouTube video on how to install the lock in great detail. Plus there were other videos on putting it on my specific safe. I considered the installation very easy and straight forward. The one step that worried me turned out to be very easy. You have to cut the Dial Spindle to the correct length. I used a Dremel tool with a metal cutoff wheel and it took about 7 or 8 seconds to cut the spindle. It is very soft metal and the Dremel gave it a very smooth cut. On my particular safe, the bracket that keeps the relocker from actuating, needs to have another hole drilled into it to match the locks screw hole pattern. That took about 20 seconds. There are several YouTube videos that show what this looks like. When It came time to insert the "Spline Key", mine was missing or so I thought. It had fallen out of the little packets of parts and was stuck in the box. I shook the box and heard a faint rattling and it fell out. As the box is not sealed, it could have fallen out anywhere in transport. I apparently got lucky. In S&G's YouTube instruction video, it has you test your combination 1/2 and number low and 1/2 a number high for the combination you selected. Mine would not open when I did this. It did open when I put in the exact numbers, which I did about 10 times. I called S&G and they told me this was not a problem, just fine engineering. After laughing for a few minutes, i unlocked the safe several more times before finally actually closing the door for the real test. I have had the lock installed for the last few weeks or so and it has worked perfectly. I no longer have that uneasy feeling every time I go to unlock the safe. "Great Product". It has been almost 8 years now and the lock has performed perfectly. No uneasy feelings with the mechanical lock.

Easy DIY project brings peace of mind
I just installed this lock on the Bighorn Safe I got from Costco. I really wanted a mechanical lock when I bought the safe, because I didn't trust that an electronic lock wouldn't fail at some point. But this wasn't an option. So I thought I'd use the electronic lock for a while, and plan on installing this S&G lock at a later time. "Later" became "now" when the electronic lock failed to engage the first time I powered it up. With my reservations confirmed, I pulled the trigger on purchasing this lock. The installation was easy, and the video referenced in other reviews made the job a simple task. You don't need the alignment tool for this: The screw holes for the electronic support screws lined up exactly with the outer ring of this lock. I put on the outer ring, making it snug, but not tight so I could bump it into adjustment. After threading the rod into place. I spun the dial several times and couldn't find any spots that rubbed. Once I was satisfied I removed the dial and tightened up the outer ring. After that it was a matter of cutting back the threaded rod and completing the assembly. I did have to make a couple of adjustments when it came to the relocker bracket. This lock is a little thicker than the original electronic lock (I'm including a picture with the original lock resting on top of the newly installed S&G lock for reference). The bolts that held the tab in place went through the original lock into the backing plate, but this is not the case with the S&G lock. This made them just a little bit too long. I took care of that by adding a washer and lock washer to each. The other issue that the thicker lock created was in relation to the tab that holds the relocker in place: The rounded edge of the plunger had a very small amount of contact on the edge of the tab. I was concerned that this wouldn't be enough and that it would fail while the door was closed, so I bent the bracket inward so that there was more surface contact. I've included a couple of pictures to illustrate this. Setting the combination was a breeze, as were all aspects of this installation thanks to the video! In fact, the hardest part of this installation was deciding what combination to use! Very happy with this purchase and the peace of mind it brings. If you're at all handy, this should be an easy job for you. *Update: My pictures disappeared for some reason, so I'm uploading them again.
