Best portable projector under $600 as of 4/6/16
First and foremost, I purchased, via amazon, the Sony MPCL1, Celluon PicoPro, Asus S1, and ZTE S Pro at the same time. Thanks to that, I was able to compare all of them side by side. Here's the breakdown:Asus S1: Excellent view distance thanks to short throw lens. Roughly 3 hour battery life is at the upper end of what is available. However, the lack of wireless connectivity (both to your devices via wifi display, to the internet in general) and lack of bluetooth means this projector already has 1 foot in the grave. The image quality is also mundane, running 480p natively. It has USB, but the port only works for charging, NOT data transfer. Translation: you pay about $300 for a projector that led the industry about 5 years ago!.Celluon PicoPro: Excellent image given its size. Laser focus means its always sharp, despite whatever angle/surface used. Has HDMI/Bluetooth/Wifi, BUT these wireless implements are also its downfall. BOTH the picopro AND the Sony MPCL1 suffer from signal drop-outs, reconnection issues, and sync failure. For a device that essentially relies on wireless connectivity, this is unacceptable. The PicoPro also suffers from a 2hr limit on battery life (even less if you use bluetooth/screen mirroring). This is exacerbated by a less-than-stellar brightness rating and laser-bleed (wherein the image is tainted pink). This same issue was present in the Sony MPCL1.Offered as Sony's newest picoprojector, the MPCL1 is nearly identical to the picopro (and it should be since Celluon uses the exact same laser assembly, purchased from Sony). Unfortunately that means that the same problems plague it.This brings me to the ZTE S Pro. Seriously, its AMAZING. The image quality is the best of the 4, with more accurate colors, sharper image quality (resolution is 1920x720 native), and a brighter lumen level (going by how the same image looked on all 4 at the same time, NOT some arbitrary manufacturer rating). The feature list is equally impressive as well, offering a full Android Tablet experience via an integrated touch screen, wifi streaming, MicroSD card input, USB port that supports data transfer, and a SIM card port for 4G LTE service enabling internet access anywhere that cell service exists. The tablet interface has some drawbacks, such as sluggish response when multitasking, but it does work as intended, allowing wireless streaming direct to the projector with no cables or screen-mirroring. I tested it with Netflix, Youtube, and Kodi, and it worked marvelously. Additionally, unlike the Asus S1, the USB port allows file playback, so you can just plug in a flash drive and play any movies/music you have saved. Also like the S1, the S Pro includes a mounting screw allowing Tripod use. This is an often-overlooked feature. It's something you don't miss until you use a projector like the MPCL1 that doesn't have it. Of course, the S Pro also includes a full-size HDMI port, unlike the MPCL1 and PicoPro. This is another feature that shows its true worth when its absent. While testing the Sony MPCL1 and the PicoPro, screen-mirroring kept cutting out. Naturally, I decided to connect directly via HDMI only to find that both required a MicroHDMi adapter! Thankfully, Sony includes one, but if you bought a PicoPro, you now need to buy an adapter too!S Pro negatives:1. Low-powered CPU/Ram/Internal Storage: The use of a relatively weak dual-core CPU means multi-tasking is out of the question. Do too much and the machine will respond sluggishly. The 0.5 gb of ram means it literally cannot handle certain apps. Don't expect to play higher res games straight off the projector. Lastly, though it has 4gb of internal storage, the tablet's responsiveness seems to be heavily impacted by even the smallest storage consumption. Thankfully, that's easily remedied by using a MicroSd card, but it'd be nice if an additional purchase wasn't so necessary.2. No Lens cover: The Asus S1 features a sliding cover for the lens. This is a great feature given the portable nature of the projector. Too bad it's missing on the Sony MPCL1, PicoPro, AND ZTE S Pro!3. Less-than-stellar build quality: The ZTE S Pro is a block of plastic. It's not particularly heavy, but when compared to the stainless steel unibody of the Asus S1 and the aluminum casing of the Sony MPCL1, construction of the ZTE definitely seems cheaper.Having said all that, ZTE offers the most comprehensive and high-quality pico projector available with the S Pro. The image is better than the competition in every way, whether it's resolution, color contrast, or brightness. The integration of tablet functionality means the projector doesn't need a bunch of accessories either. As long as you have some kind of wireless internet connectivity, you're good to go! Add in the MicroSD, USB, and HDMI ports and the bases are totally covered. ZTE hit a homerun with this one. Also, they offer an even better model, the S Pro 2, equipped with a metal casing, bigger touchscreen, and brighter image rating (200 lumens). Of course, that upgrade comes with a hefty price ($600), but it's nice to know it's out there. Putting the S Pro 2 aside, if you're not interested in spending more than $400, then the ZTE S Pro is, without a doubt, the best option available.

If you have a new Samsung read this!!!
I bought this system for conferences in my military job where projection is an essential tool. Wanted to use my phone with this small system but to no avail it's not compatible with my Note 5 screen mirroring capability only works with the old mirroring cast functions Samsung doesn't use anymore. Called the manufacturer and there's nothing they can do. Plus in use battery fades quick great invention but need some serious updates and modernization of software. Other then that everything is great PS4 looks amazing; especially when placed in further distances high definition view volume is weak but you can enhance with other methods. I gave it three stars because it works but just not for modern Samsung products that has screen mirroring. Even with downloading third party apps that cast mirror does not work either.

Defective focus wheel, product returned
Projector came well packaged and was fairly easy to set up, but the focus wheel (to the side of the projector lens) was very loose, which made it extremely difficult to focus, with no ability to fine tune the focus. With focusing so hard and the wheel so loose, once you pass the approximate focus, you have to spin the wheel all the way back the other way to, at the end of the spin, quickly go by more-or-less focused again. This cannot be normal, as I checked with a friend, whose SPro inspired my purchase, and his focus wheel works smoothly he told me.I had to return and hope I don’t get dinged with 15% charge if the seller doesn’t agree that the item was defective. (I also checked reviews here, and as no one else mentions any difficulty in focusing I must assume I was shipped a defective product.)

Good quality for a small price
Im really enjoying this projector. although its my first i can say its being used often. the picture is very sharp, full of vibrant color and the battery is not so bad. Ive used it about 8 times by now in the 2 wk time spam ive had it and so far so good. I havent connected it to stream from any devices yet but i added a 16gig memory card and have been streaming from the apps ive downloaded from the playstore. Im going to use to this to replace buying a tv for my room as i dont watch much. its perfect because it saves space and doesnt ocmpromise on quality. the sound is not very loud so i connect it to my bluetooth speakers.
