A great every day timepiece.
I am updating my review again on January 13, 2021. I have been wearing the watch daily for over 18 months. Remarkably, the watch is keeping better time than when new. I set it spot on 3 weeks ago and checked it today. It is spot on. It might vary plus or minus a second or two during that timespan, but overall it is truly much better than I ever dreamed. It must have gotten one of the best ETA 2824-A2 movements ever made.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I am updating my review after wearing this watch for one year. The accuracy continues to be less than 1 second in 24 hours. Depending on the position I leave it in at night, it gains and loses just enough that I do not have to set it for weeks. It stays within 3 seconds either way. Aside from some patina on the clasp, it looks just like the day I opened the box.Original review: Two years ago I traded in my Submariner for a President. I wore my Sub every day for 15 years and wanted another watch for daily wear. Fishing, hunting and sporting clay shooting are among my outdoor pastimes so I wanted a rugged watch. The Marathon GSAR suits all of my needs. When it arrived, the "out of box" experience was excellent. I checked the accuracy and observed that it gained 1 second in 60 hours! Truly remarkable for an automatic movement. I realize that their performance will vary from watch to watch and I likely lucked out and got an especially accurate movement. It's a hefty watch and while the bezel measures 41.5 mm, it seems smaller on my 8 inch wrist. I work in the Aerospace Machining Industry, so I am familiar with and appreciate precision manufacturing. The dial is easy to read at acute angles which is nice because I can glance down during meetings and don't need to turn my wrist to see the time. The rubber band is comfortable and really does smell of vanilla. I got the stainless steel bracelet to go with it and will get it installed sometime soon. It is also robust, attractive and looks well made. In summary, I am very satisfied and recommend this watch.

My favorite watch that I didn't keep.
Why this watch is referred to as a TOOL WATCH, I really don't understand. The Marathon GSAR is GORGEOUS piece of hardware. Turns lots of heads. Guys wearing Rolexs and Omegas were impressed by it.Steel with a raised dial to make it easier to grip with gloves on. Well laid out markers that don't appear "too busy". Bright Tritium markers throughout. Stella automatic movement. Comfortable, vulcanized, rubber strap has a leather like appearance. I really liked this watch. So why did it go back?1. The automatic movement was inconsistent. It lost time every day. 1 day it lost 3 seconds. Another it lost 15 seconds. The worst was around 25 seconds in one day. (Coming from quartz... this drove me nuts.)2. The strap. It is injected with a vanilla sent to combat some of the ranker smells that watch bands can pick up. Unfortunately for me the smell of it was just too strong. I wore the watch for 2 weeks and never acclimated to the smell. (Kind of made me noxious)3. The strap was not according style but flat. I have a tendency to fluctuate in weight, mostly based on my hydration level. Drink to much, and the band that was comfortable all day... is suddenly choking off my circulation when I was sleeping.4. The beautiful steel case was a lot heavier then I was used too. It was also raised high enough off my wrist, that I was constantly snagging or banging things.I just prefer Titanium to steel. At $1200 its an excellent buy... just not right for me.

Good Watch, Works, and has Good Visibility
I think I picked this up for ~$760 USD. I wanted a watch I could read unambiguously with a quick glance day or night plus date display. I prefer quartz, but thought I'd try an automatic so I could say I had an automatic at some point. A good jeweler said this should go 3 to 5 years before needing service, give or take due to the environment. This keeps perfect time as far as I can tell - I mean, I can't detect any error over a month. It's solid. It hasn't marred on the case or face or whatever you call the front after some bangs on steel and gravel. I trust the water tight specs for as far as I'll dive with it. Just make sure the crown is tightly seated. I'm not planning to dive much with it anyway, so I got that stainless band with Great Seal from Marathon at the same time. You'd want a rubber or nylon band if you were actually planning on dives, so you could cut it off if it snagged at an inconvenient time. Never met a special operator who used one of these. Casio G-Shocks are hard to beat (except blackout style). This is a good size. It's not a wrist hubcap and it doesn't scream "hey ask me what I pretend I do!" Sorry guys who play dress up. Very happy with this watch. It's taken a banging and kept perfect time. Does what it's supposed to. Price under $800 seems like a decent deal.
