Excellent group study guide
After reading Philip Yancey's book, The Jesus I Never Knew, I was determined to share the contents with members of my church and other friends. I also longed to see the films to which Yancey referred. The Participant's Guide, with 6 lessons, has made it easy to share this message with a Lenten class. There is actually material within for 12 or 18 weeks, but it is possible to focus with 6. Coupled with Yancey's DVD, which does contain clips from the films, the book has provided lively discussion and great learning. It challenges one to go further into the Bible for more personal study.

Thought provoking
I've done many different Bible studies of various depths. This isn't the most in-depth, but it does lead you to think in very different ways from different perspectives. I think it might be a good introductory study for new Christians. Our study group is diverse in age and background. I never cease to be amazed at the insights and thoughts this study brings out in each of us.

Loved it! So much so I'm going to read ...
Loved it! So much so I'm going to read it when I have nothing else to read because I get something new out of it every time I read it.

Thought you knew Jesus?
A great tool for using scripture to discover the real Jesus, but in a non-fundamentalist way. Wonderful mix of Bible study and film clips to "shake up" our ideas about "The Jesus We Thought We Knew"!

Not necessary
Loved the book, but did nit find thus helpful in our Bible study discussions.

The Jesus I Never Knew Participant's Guide
The Participant's Guide is good. Some questions are excellent and are thought-provoking. The movie clips in the study are a great visual stimulant for thought and discussion. Some of the questions in the guide are less relevant to the material in the book and could be replaced by better questions in my opinion, or at least could be tied in better with the material in the book.

Our group is really enjoying this study
Our group has really been enjoying this study. The book helps us to start the discussions about what we are thinking both of the scripture and the message and movie clips that philip shows on the DVD that this goes with.

bible study book
The book is awesome and actually life changing. There is a video that can be purchased to accompany the book and it is not as good. The people in my group really enjoyed the study.

Potential life-changing stuff!
I ordered several copies of this with the DVD & personal study book to go along with the book I already have & have been doing this with my church house group. Challenging doesn't come into it! It's an easy to follow format, but takes you to a depth unusually with group studies. (At least, with the ones I've come across before.)We're quite a mixed bunch, from new Christians to those who've been committed toJesus as long as they can remember and from all backgrounds, but this has met us all and helped us to grasp more of God's amazing grace towards us, challenging how this is lived out in our daily lives. For those concerned about the possibility of it giving licence to sin (I've heard this criticism voiced) I can assure you there's clear spelling out about grace being free, not cheap! I'd recommend this to anyone wanting to deepen their relationship with God & 'live it out'!

An excellent small group resource
This was bought as part of a package. Together with the accompanying DVD and the main text 'The Jesus I Never Knew' this resulted in six excellent small group study sessions for our church-based House Group.
