I didn't pay too much attention to Al Green back in the day... had a couple of his 45s, that's it. Couple years back a new oldies station started up in this area, and became very popular because they play more than just the big hits: they also play songs and/or artists that seem to have been overlooked. I began hearing some Al Green songs I hadn't heard in years and I was really enjoying them. Enough to consider purchasing a hits CD. This has all 13 of his pop top 40 singles from his 1971-1976 heyday, so it was clearly the best choice. 5 more songs round out the CD, and of them, only his take on "I Say a Little Prayer" missed the mark with me. "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" is wonderful. The hits speak for themselves of course, and I think the sound quality is great. Recommended.

What? You don't already have this? Highly recommended. Five stars just isn't enough to convey the true greatness of this collection. If you like any one of Al Greene's songs that you have ever heard, you will love this.

Arrived in perfect condition and quick. Had the album on repeat since it arrived.The only qualm would be that it doesn't feature 'Can't get next to you' otherwise love the album and his version of Unchained Melody. Diese CD ist für alle Freunde schwarzer Stimmen Pflicht, Punkt. Vorrausgesetzt natürlich, dass Ihr nicht bereits über eine eigene kleine Al Green Sammlung verfügt. Und die Anschaffung einer solchen ist die fast unweigerliche Folge des mehrmaligen Hörens dieser Scheibe.Seit dem Pulp Fiction Soundtrack ist auch vielen jüngeren Musikfreaks der Titel "Let's Stay Together" ein Begriff. Dabei ist wohl den wenigsten von ihnen bewusst, dass Al Green als wohl bester Soulsänger der 70er Jahre Dutzende qualitativ ebenbürtiger Nummern aufgenommen hat. Die vorliegende, immer noch erfreulich günstige CD ist dabei die vielleicht gelungendste, weil ansprechendste Zusammenstellung seiner Hits. Dankenswerterweise wird ausschließlich auf das von Willie Mitchell produzierte Hi Records Material zurückgegriffen (in späteren Jahren nahm der Sänger eine Reihe weitgehend zu vernachlässigenden Gospelplatten auf) und umfasst viele von Als stärksten Nummern. Der perfekte Einstieg in die süchtig machende Musik dieses fantastischen Sängers und der traumhaften Hi Rhythm Section, seiner Studioband (achtet alleine mal auf das unfassbar gute Schlagzeugspiel von Al Jackson)! Dies ist eine der wirklich wenigen CDs, derer ich auch nach sprichwörtlich hundertmaligem Hören noch nicht überdrüssig geworden bin. So, und jetzt denkt nicht länger nach und greift zu!
