Not a great surface
I had read the reviews and all seem pretty good. When I received my axe I was disappointed with the surface quality it was pitted and some rust was present as if it just came out of he forge and no paint treatment was done (as shown in picture). It is lighter than I expected and the handle wood does seem of a good wood and finish. I did like the leather shield for the blade end.Update 8-may-12:I still not have been able to use it and its been on my back pack which has been moved around in the storage room and I was disappointed this past weekend when I was re-arranging things around the storage room and cheking items in and on my back pack, when I saw that the stiching came off from the leather sheath, not sure if it was the blade of the axe or just poor thread used. Any way I am less happy now with the overall quality of the product.

Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy one sweet axe!
I recently took this little beauty on a 5 mile hike deep in the backwoods of WV....the site I chose had a nice block already there for splitting.Let me just say that what usually would take me about 2 hours to do with a large survival knife batoning, this little champ got done in half that. The head is just the right weight to split up to 8inch logs and if you split from the side as apposed to the top, you can get such great control of the cut. The handle is not as polished as a Gransford, but with a little linseed oil it is good to go.A little on the heavy side at 2.5 pounds, it is worth it, if I had to pick one tool to take in the backcountry this would be it. A+++

Disappointed. I expected better quality
Disappointed. I expected better quality. I know these are hand made, but the head alignment was terrible. Not only was the grain on the handle poor, but it was chipped at the top and stuck out too far. So poor handle that was attached badly. I give the axe two stars because at least it's sharp and will split wood. The poll is not rounded and in my opinion they shouldn't advertise or call this axe a hunters axe as that misleads people into thinking the poll is rounded like the old ones used to be. They were rounded to aid in skinning large game. So to sum up I'd say this will be fine for around the house for splitting kindling and maybe small firewood for the campfire. Just not an axe to brag about or hang on the wall. The head alignment is what bothers me the most. I wished mine would have been made better.

This has got to be my current favorite axe/hatchet. The grain on the one I received was not that good though (around 45 degrees). Everything else is superb. It is small enough the I can pack it in all my packs and can use it to whittle and carve. Its is large enough to split most things I need to while out and about. I prefer this over my Granfors Bruks Wilderness Hatchet.

good axe
I bought this based on a positive review from the pathhfinders school. It's been too snowy for me to field test but I trust that they know what they are talking about. I'll be using it to clear deer trails all summer and spring

Fine Axe
This is a product where you really do get what you pay for. Sure, this bench crafted axe is more expensive than some mass produced axe but for those who really want to have a really good tool to make splitting wood enjoyable, consider procuring a Wetterling Axe. The axe feels right in the hand, looks just like an axe should and works perfectly. The balance is just right and the axe is a pleasure to own.

Solid hatchet. Some idiot got hold of mine and chipped the hell out of the edge splitting logs on rock. Had to grind off almost 1/8β of the blade and reprofile but works flawlessly. Nary an issue. BUY IT.

Nice tool
I've used this on a few camping trips and it worked for making a fire and pounding in tent steaks. I also butchered a chicken with this and it worked great. The head is made to go on a bigger ax but I like the extra weight, I am a big boy and this is like the hammer of thor but one side is an ax.
