Don't leave home without it.
The London museums can be overwhelming. You really need this guide to attack them in an organized manor. As a plus, the guide covers many small museums that other guides don't include or give short shift to.

Not quite to Blue standards.
Blue Guides I've used for other cities' art go one step beyond what a guide book normally does; this one did not. There was not the super-connection between the Blue Guide's promptings and the museum art I saw.As well, could have been just a bit more generous in London maps, but the maps included are great; you also get a subway map, handy for planning, and in general quite a panorama of London museums.Guiding depends on the heart of the guided, someone else would be ga-ga for this book's 'let's laud London' approach.

great overview
This is an excellent overview of the museums and galleries in London, complete with opening times and websites. It is particularly valuable for trip planning--if there is something that particularly interests you, reading this guide ahead of time will help you to locate the right museum or gallery. It's a bit too heavy to carry on a trip, but that could be said of all the blue guides. I use them to plan, and sometimes photocopy/scan the material that I need on my travels.

A great resource
Whether visiting London for your first time or you feel you know it very well, this is a brilliant starting point to determining which museums are worthy of your time. Blue Guide is easy to read and navigate. It's very objective in its presentation. It alphabetically lists museums and galleries from the world famous to small hidden treasures and describes them in very good detail, whether it takes one or twenty pages. If you only take one book to London, take this. The concierge and free (or cheap)resources available there (like Time Out magazine) can help you with shopping, navigating public transport, dining, performing arts, etc. It will not only help determine which museums, but you'll know which bits of the museums you'll most want to see.

If you need a more deep guide. This is the one
One Saturday morning my older son was quite grumpy at 11 am and did not want to wake-up. Them the mother that just arrive from a night of heavy drinking called the Police that very diligently arrested the man. I was allowed to bring one book and the only one that I was able to grab was this one. I read for the many hours I was kept in a cell for the very British crime to annoying a drunken mother. I enjoy the book enormously in particular for the level of details and the in deep descriptions of each of the museums in London. Inclusive many that I never knew that existed (and I love museum). This is not a basic guide as many around but one where you can develop a real knowledge of your visit and avoid the superficiality of other guides. Unfortunately, illustrations, maps and diagrams are not comparable with a DK or other guides. But text and explanation are superb, you really need a quiet place to read it all and enjoy it and you will really take advantage of it. Strongly recommended.

The BlueGuide did very well in giving a good thorough review of all the places I want for ...
Having to cover London's Galleries/Museums is a daunting task. The BlueGuide did very well in giving a good thorough review of all the places I want for a weeks museum vacation. Thanks
