The handle is a very nice, smooth type of wood that is comfortable in ...
This brush suited my needs perfectly. My daughter is extremely picky about brushing her hair. She has very thick, curly hair that is very difficult to manage. Years back, on a whim I bought a cheap brush from a store that was going out of business and that ended up being the only brush she would use. Because she stays with her mother more than me, I sent that brush with her to her moms house. Now I need a brush for my house. This brush had exactly what I needed. Very stiff nylon bristles, several each in a small circular pattern and moderately spaced between each group. It works perfectly. Now she can finally brush her hair at my house with complaining and avoiding it all day. The handle is a very nice, smooth type of wood that is comfortable in the hand.

It's become my new favorite brush!
I started out trying "no poo" or the method of cleaning one's hair without shampoo, because most shampoos contain damaging chemicals, and the ones that don't are so expensive. But, the problem was, they recommend a boar bristle brush, in order to push your natural oils from the scalp to the roots, and to remove buildup on your head like dead skin without shampooing. No dead boars please just for my hair to look good, I'm vegetarian (not strictly vegan), but I only rarely eat dairy products, and I won't buy anything with animal products. So I researched to look for a good nylon brush and luckily, this one worked perfectly. It, like I said, became my new favorite brush. I enjoy how it gives me an even distribution of oils to my hair, and now I rarely use shampoo. When I do, I use "tear free" baby shampoo because it doesn't contain harsh sulfates, but is cheaper than the "hippie shampoos". I also have issues with flakiness and dandruff because of my dry skin, and I think it's helped me not have it as bad, because it really does the job when it comes to brushing those flakes off your scalp.Go no-poo, with no harm to animals!

Excellent quality though not suitable for really coarse hair
We have owned 2 of these brushes for a few years now. I have 3 daughters so that makes 4 of us using this brush. We have found...even with different types of hair....that this brush is only so-so for effectiveness. The bristles are just too flexible and wimpy ("extra firm" headline notwithstanding). My hair is super long (knee length), super thick (top of braid as big as my wrist), and super coarse (as soon as it gets wet it kinks). I have the most difficult time using this brush while my daughter with straight fine hair finds it somewhat useful. The good news about this brush is that it is excellent quality and hasn't lost a bristle in all these years of several of us using them!

At Last, Finally Found My Perfect Brush--Nylon Is a Must
As the youngest of several siblings, I generally just got passed along most things. Somehow I came to have two brushes that were exactly the same, that none of my sisters liked because they weren't good for their hair. However, my hair is a very odd mix of slightly curly and a little thin and these brushes worked just fabulously on them. For years, I tried finding replacements for these brushes--and even when I bought new ones that I thought were similar--they weren't. It always felt like I was trying to brush my hair with a cheap paint brush, and I couldn't figure out why these brushes that looked and felt the same actually had very soft bristles and couldn't "dig into" my hair.Reinforced nylon is the answer. Apparently, most brushes that look like this are made with boar bristles, and not nylon. Unfortunately, probably because my hair is a little curly--these boar bristles are just wholly ineffective. It's a little pathetic that it's taken me into my 20s to figure this out, but at least I know what to look for in the future. As for this actual brush, it looks just about as pictured in the preview pic and feels quality. Works beautifully for me. Recommended for those people who need this type of brush, but with stronger bristles.

Not "firm" or "extra firm" at all. Arrived in unusable condition.
Do not be fooled by the "Extra Firm" description. I have soft curly hair and this brush does not go through my hair. I wanted a brush to get to my scalp with ease and this is not it. But the worse thing is that it arrived with a lot of bent and broken bristles, in that condition it was unusable. The brush was so inexpensive that I won't bother to claim my money back, but here I am again, I'm about to order a brush from another brand and hope not to be disapointed again.

Does the job!.
The nylon and wood combo seems natural and nice. Very comfortable to use, not too big or small and the bristles are firm enough to get right to the scalp for a satisfying brushing experience.

... owned this product before and while it is still good, I wanted to purchase another
I have owned this product before and while it is still good, I wanted to purchase another. The bristles on the new one are no where near as firm as my old one, which I have probably owned over 10 years. As a Black Muslim my appearance is important, even more important is keeping away from the swine. Whatever they did to make this brush years ago I wish they'd go back to it. I give it ☆☆☆ because it's still a nylon brush, boar bristles aren't an option.

Don't Judge a Book by the Cover
Normally, I wouldn't write a review on anything, but I want to save other people from being taken like I was. The Diane Extra Firm Nylon Bristles Styling Brush came through looking pretty good, but don't be fooled. The bristles began falling out the very first time I used it, leaving a hole in the brush. The next time, more bristles fell out. What's worse is that they were left in my hair and I had to comb them out. At last count (about 2 months ago), there were 26 holes in my brush where the bristles had been. Needless to say, I haven't used it since. I went back to my trusty old hair brush by Goody.
