Without the Link box this smoke detector will work as a dumb device and sound the alarm if smoke is detected. You can also pair up to 12 detectors with each other without a Link box. With a link box you should be able to get an alert on your phone if the smoke alarm goes of when your out. You can also buy other Smartwares devices e.g. lights, and can control them from your phone via the Link box.

Got these in January and installed them been OK until now I put them in my mother's house and on the 13th June 5 months later they started going of for no reason so when they were taken down to check the batteries inside were corroded so changed batteries and c what happens but this is not good enough as my mother is 80 and I live 3 hours away if that's how this life saving equipment comes I would not trust it or by there equipment again
