An excellent upgrade, if you work on your feet
I work in a hospital, on my feet, 8 to 12 hours a day. I put these inside my new balance trainers, and I’ve been doing this for many years now. The inserts last about a year, about the time the shoes are worn out.

A Must Have In Every Pair
I've spoiled myself with these high quality replacement insoles! Now I've got to have a set in every pair of shoes-- not just my running sneakers. I used the original Sobothane UltaSole product beginning in the 90's and I've never found another brand that surpasses the Sorbothane series of insoles. The only change I've noticed is in the top surface. The original ones had a "slick" (almost rubber like) surface that your foot contacted. Instead, the newer ones have a thin fabric layer on top. I have found it is NOT an improvement. The original surface was more comfortable. Moisture was never an issue, so this change serves no purpose that I have discovered. Quite the opposite: the new fabric layer begins to peel away and roll up at the edges fairly quickly and eventually this renders the insert no longer functional. In contrast, I have a couple of the original ones that still function perfectly even after many, many years. However, this is really a small concession in the larger picture. Other inserts have even a shorter functional life and don't offer near the performance and comfort. I'm just grateful that these have remained and are still available today. I have tried other brands including ones double or tripple the price, but none have equaled (much less surpassed) the UltraSole in my experience. People have different needs and expectations-- so it's a very subjective opinion, but I always recommend these. The most important place to start is to know the characteristics you need in your situation. Only then can you find the best match for your feet.

Lets see what these can do....
I have SuperFeet insoles in my hot weather Danner boots, those are nice, paid $40+ for them. They do the job just fine. Then I bought these Sorbothane insoles for my Belleville temperate weather boots. The instructions say to remove the "stock insole"... since I needed to tighten up the boots by filling in just a little bit, I left the stock insoles in and placed the Sorbothane insoles on top of the stock insoles, that did the trick for filling the boots. First thing I noticed, the Sorbothane insoles are a little firmer than the SuperFeet insoles except in the heel and "ball of the foot" areas, the Sorbothane insoles have softer rubber in those areas whereas the SuperFeet are one type of rubber as one piece. With the SuperFeet insoles, I still get hot spots and blisters. I'm still breaking in the Belleville boots so time will tell if the sorbothane insoles help to eliminate the blistering, but with the softness of the rubber, I think that may help. The biggest difference is cost. The Sorbothane insoles are half the price of SuperFeet.

Excellent for bad knees!
My knees were debilitating me (later determined to be due to a combo of loose ligaments and Food sensitivities) so that I was using crutches around my home and not really walking anywhere else. I found it was much worse after a day of walking around barefoot, so I started using my best shoes, which helped a lot. Then I purchased these and put these in my best shoes and my knees further started recovering to a point I could function normally at home and work (3/4 desk job). There was an immediate change, but it did take several months continuing to improve. Now there is not much difference on my knees between my best shoes with these insoles vs worse shoes with these insoles (impact wise). These did not magically fix my knees, however they made a noticeable and tremendous difference. I highly recommend for bad knees. Even if your problem is not caused by the impact, I found that reducing the impact helps them to heal from other problems too. They have held up well, however I see that transferring them between shoes frequently is wearing on them. I will be purchasing another Sorbothane pair (maybe the Sorbothane ultra work to compare..) so I can rotate shoes while not having to rotate the insoles so they can last longer.

Excellent for backpacking
Five stars for these inserts. I've bought many inserts over the years, and prior to these my favorites were Herman Survivors which are available at Walmart. These Sorbothane inserts are more than twice the price, but much much more comfortable. They are thicker than every other insert I've tried, and that can make your shoes fit a little tight. I recently bought new hiking boots and bought a half size larger than usual to accommodate the Sorbothanes. These inserts help me carry more weight in my backpack without hurting my feet.I emailed and called Sorbothane's customer service to ask what the difference is between the UltraSoles and the Ultra Work Sport Insoles. They never responded. Zero stars for their non-existent customer service. I decided to try the UltraSoles because they were cheaper and looked similar, and I've been very happy with them.

Feet Saver
Sorbothane are by far the best inserts I have ever used. These saved my feet during Special Forces assessment and selection (SFAS), and though that was almost twenty years ago, the product is still the same high quality. I use them for running but I don’t feel they make that big of a difference for me, (probably because I don’t run enough distance). Where they make a big difference is when you’re on your feet for long periods whether it be walking, hiking, rucking or a job like nursing or cashier; the cushion these inserts provide is worth every penny and more. I can get other brand inserts for free at work but they aren’t even worth the bother. The only complaint I have is that there are some shoes I can’t fit them in, e.g. Merell’s, there just isn’t enough room but that’s part of the trade-off, you can’t have that much cushion and support and be super thin.
