Keep this short and sweet. My existing USB-A to RS-232 (db9) cable would not work or be recognized under Windows 11. The drivers for the chipsets used in the cable were not updated by the vendor for whatever reason. Maybe to sell new cables, who knows. Time for an upgrade. Purchased this cable and it was plug and play, no problems. I use the cable for programming radio scanners that listen to public safety. This cable was for an older radio that uses a little older programming interface. No problems experienced to date. Have used the cable a couple of times.

Worked perfectly to connect an old BioTek Synergy HT plate reader to a windows 11 machine (just had to reassign the USB port to be Com1 to work with Gen5 software.) I'm very pleased with this product!

For years our company has provided another brand which contained the Prolific chip set. However, about a year ago we started receiving several complaints from clients stating that their hardware was not working properly. After some research we found that there was a reported compatibility issues between the Prolific chip sets with Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10. Several people had stated that switching to the FTDI chip sets had fixed their problem. We found the Tera Grand USB to serial adapters on Amazon which contain the FTDI chip sets and decided to order some for in house testing. We hooked up the adapters to several different pieces of hardware and had zero issues. We have since ordered about 50 adapters and have sent them to clients who were having issues with the Prolific chip sets. The Tera Grand adapters have fixed the issues our clients were having with their hardware. These are great adapters and I would highly recommend them, especially if you are experiencing issues with adapters that contain the Prolific chip sets.

Selling a cash register that can be programmed via an RS-232 connection to a PC, but needed to connect it to a laptop with only USB ports. This Tera Grand cable worked perfectly, fitting between the null modem cable I'd normally use and the PC. The female jacks allowed me to screw the cables together to make a semi-permanent unit. This cable comes with a mini-CD with drivers, but Windows 10 installed it automatically, before I could even load the CD. Communication is fast (for RS-232C) and transparent. I'm glad Amazon keeps an order history for me, because I'll buy more of the same for other installations.

I wanted to give this thing 3 stars, but that would not be fair. Mostly that has to do with my frustration from the physical format of thing - which is clear in the photo that I did not pay attention to. 1) It's short. 3 feet is not enough for most uses, be aware of that 2) Most frustrating. The DB9 end has female screw holes, not male screws. And they are not removable. Yes, just like in the photo. But this means I could not connect it to any serial port on any piece of gear I have. Why would you make it that way?? I had to buy a serial extension cable with male fasteners on each end just to use this. On the bright side, it needed no installation under Windows 10 and seems to work like a charm. There is a tiny driver CD_ROM what comes with it, I did not need it. Electrically this works very well, just don't overlook the physical limitations - like I did.

Used this to connect Innovate dual LC-2 serial to my HP laptop USB running Windows 11 Home version. This cable worked right out of the box with NO driver download.

I bought this to adapt for telescope control from my laptop with the RS232 cable that was included with the mount. It has the FTDI chipset that was recommended by the mount manufacturer and worked perfectly on the first try. Windows 10 recognized it without loading any external drivers but I did download the latest drivers from the Tera Grand website in case they were needed. I couldn't be happier with this purchase and wouldn't hesitate to buy this again if I ever needed replacement or just a second one for another set up. I bought the one with the 10 ft. length so I could get a little distance from the telescope and I never had any loss of signal with it and the cable included with the mount.

This cable has always been a great choice for what I use it for. I have recommended it to many in the same space, all with similar results.
