Best Sub for your dollar I know of
I don't think it is possible to get a better sounding and quality sub for the money. I have always liked Carver products and this is not just an affordable sub. I was looking to an inexpensive sub for a bedroom but i am critical with my sound products and would always spend more money to get a good product versus buying something I won't be happy with which I feel is a total waste. That being said and knowing audio products well and music theory and playing music since I have been 7 years old I can tell you I know a few things. I will speak in laymens terms as best as possible and not throw out techy knowledge most wont understand. I know music and sound is subjective because we all hear things differently as well as personal preference. I will tell you that first of all the speaker used in this product is just not a descent woofer that is being used as a subwoofer, Meaning they are throwing low frequencies at it. It is specifically engineered and designed for low notes and the cone movement is not a normal distance of travel as a normal non engineered subwoofer speaker. Low frequency sounds need a lot of air to be moved to be heard. The higher the frequency the less air movement is needed. That is why small speakers are used for very high sounding frequencies. So a good way of moving lows has always been using large speakers, makes sense right? but back in the day we just used large cone speakers 18 inch was common in the 70's. But the demand for smaller more efficient products changed the thinking of design. Remember we still need to move large amounts of air so how do you do this with smaller speakers. Well most typical speakers in the lower sound range used to typically move the speaker cone back and forth about 1/2 an inch. But what if you could take a smaller driver and move the cone much further than 1/2 an in travel? Viola! more air movement can be achieved! This is the principle with most good to high end subwoofers of today. Carver being one of the pioneers in this theory which is the master engineer for Sunfire speakers. Now there are other factors like instead of s sealed cabinet a ported cabinet can move more air or also using a passive speaker (passive speaker needs no power from the amplifier) working with the powered speaker acts kind of like two speakers because the passive speaker can mover air as well but in a different way. So in the SDS line of speakers you are getting a very compact speaker moving alot of air for it's size using a very long moving speaker and a passive radiator or speaker. What I really like about this design is it is also very musical for a subwoofer. Though I believe if you have very good speakers a subwoofer is not really needed for music but if very very small speakers are desired for your stereo sound you want a subwoofer that sounds good for music as well as movies in which movies demand much lower sounds be reproduced than music. Sometimes low sounds you can't really hear but feel instead. Artificial sounds can be produced in cheaper subs in music which is not desirable or if it is not adjusted properly to match your content and existing speakers. This is another topic. All that being said for the money this sub does it all. Sounds great for music and does very well for it's size for movies. Of course if you want more output and more low end power for movies and size is not as important and you have a few more dollars to spend, get one of the larger SDS subs but which ever one you get.. for the money you will be completely happy with any of the SDS subs. Sunfire has a reputation to uphold and this is the least expensive sub they make and is no means cheap in quality. Which was there idea to bring a hi quality sub to those who could not afford one normally. New product for them. I could go on about the class D amp and other specs but I wanted to keep the review short and to the point if anyone was questioning the value of this product.I did NOT receive and discount for this review, I wanted to give back to a great company for providing lower cost products that out perform others in there cost segments. Thanks Sunfire and Bob Carver.. keep up the great work. Visit[...] to see all there products

which were surprisingly pretty decent for music
Had an old M&K MX-100 dual 12 inch sub in a small 5.1 system. That sub was too much for my small townhome as it shook the neighbors homes. Downsized to 2 Dayton Sub-800, which were surprisingly pretty decent for music, but were just not enough on certain movie tracks. Obviously I felt I was missing much from the old M&K. Decided to swap the Dayton's for one SDS8. The Sunfire does not have the ultimate low end of the M&K, but I do not feel I am really missing much with this unit. In fact, I would say the bass produced from the dual 8 setup...one active and one passive radiator, is cleaner and tighter than the dual 12's. A ton of output from such a small box. Looks good, well built, nice controls, ton of bass and no angry neighbors. I am constantly adjusting the volume down as this unit continues to surprise me. Sold one Dayton and moved the other to a 2.1 setup, but liked the SDS8 so much, decided to sell the other Dayton and got another SDS8. If you are looking for a smaller footprint sub with a lot of bass, do not think you could do much better...especially if you get them on sale like I did.

BASS from Magic Box
Was never a passive radiator person as I though it was the cheep way to make subs or speaker looks like they have more drivers when they don't. However this is a game changer. Passive radiators, when used correctly, can give you that large box boom and depth in a very small space. This little power house with it's 8" woofer and 8" passive radiator pumps out louder, deeper and better bass than the 250Watt Ported 13" sub I was running. Based on the fact that the box shipped as a "collectors item", get them while you can. They come in pretty light, which not what you expect from sunfire, but don't let it fool you. Switching power supplies and class D amps and neodym magnet tech take away weight without sacrificing power and quality. Get one, you can't go wrong in this price range, I promise you will be impressed and slightly boggled by what this little monster can do.

Small sub. but powerful.
I replaced an older KLH 12" Sub because I needed a sub that had a tight response and a lot more power. This Sunfire SDS 8 sub is small but it packs a nice punch that's not roomy. I have a second sub I use with this one. However I like this one because of the fine volume, phase, and crossover adjustment control knobs makes it ease to fine tune this sub to your other speakers. The downfiring and front base response makes this an awesome sub. Other may have a different opinion. One will have to try it to believe what comes out of this unit. The reason this sub is great because it can be place anywhere or wireless. What I don't like about it that the wireless kit doesn't come with it.

Amazing deep sound in a small package.
It fills in the bottom end of my Martin Logan’s And blends perfectly. It work flawlessly with my Rotel and brings a well rounded sound to my system. Sometimes a large woofer can be too much and doesn’t blend for music. This woofer brings musicality and movies to life at low and high SPL. Great choice. We will miss you Sunfire.

Me enganei.
