Great book.
To the person below that gave the one star review about how the book doesn't describe how to facilitate a "good" relationship with the client: there is no describing in text how to facilitate a healthy and therapeutic alliance with a client because it comes from the genuineness and empathy from the therapist. There is no way of teaching someone this, you have to find it in yourself and a big part of it has to do with genuinely caring about the client and exhibiting unconditional positive regard. This should already be something that is known when you begin graduate school. Overall, I completely agree with the text. Sometimes, as clinicians, we focus too much on the theories learned in school rather than remembering that sometimes all a client needs is our focus and attention and most importantly, our empathetic responses to the client. This explains why therapy has taken a post-modernist stance and you see a lot of these new theories coming into light such as the book mentions, solution-focused and others such as recovery oriented, narrative and so on. Great book.

Every Helper's Guidebook
As a professional helper I found their research to be enlightening and their stories told with a very wicked satirical side that I love. It is a book that people who really, really desire to help people in pain can learn from.

Not worth the read!
I had to buy and read this book as part of my counseling program. The book was really a waste of time. The authors basically slammed all theoretical orientations with the exception of their own, which is Solution Focused. They talk about how the relationship is the most important element of the counseling relationship, yet they really don't expand on how one would facilitate a "good" relationship. Don't buy or read this book unless you absolutely HAVE TO.

A little repetitive in terms of ideas but a good and helpful read
A little repetitive in terms of ideas but a good and helpful read. I feel that this is a book that could easily be condensed into something shorter and more objective.

Must read for therapists!
Highly recommend for any psychotherapist out there. Must read, good foundation for students and professionals in the field. It's time we all focus on what actually works!
