It's not the Overlook, but still a good read for 9-12 year olds
The boys are on vacation at a small, struggling family-run ski resort with their friend, Chet Morton. After a couple of mishaps they decide to leave ahead of a storm that will strand everyone there. The boys would have made it out had they driven themselves rather than riding up in Chet's jalopy (that's an old car that may or may not start at any given time, for you young ones), but then we wouldn't have a mystery.Snowed in while other acts of sabotage occur, some dangerous, the boys start investigating. Rather than spoil anything I'll just run down the elements in this story: a saboteur with unknown motives; a list of suspects isolated by the storm; two dogs with two entirely different talents; a fall down artist; someone undercover; a false confession (or two); and secret boyfriend-girlfriend; a red herring (or two). The clues are pretty fair and if you pay attention to a few of them and watch where everyone is (and is not) you can figure out the mystery. The chapters are laid out well, the first person narration is easily identifiable as one of the two brothers (they alternate chapters), and each chapter end makes you want to at least read into the next page.Very good addition to this series.

Hardy Boys Rule!!!
I recommend this book to everyone.I liked how they solved the mystery & there was more than 1 bad guy.I disliked how the mystery did not come together until the end.

Franklin W. Dixon has done it again!
The Hardy Boy books are a great source for a good, no, GREAT, mystery. "Franklin D. is one of my favorite authors and here books always have me hooked" says my 11 year old son, Aiden. I recommend these books to anyone!

A Great Addition to the Series
The Hardy Boys Adventures is on a roll. Coming off the very strong book 4 (Into Thin Air) the series outdid itself and created an even better book 5. The secret to the novel’s success is twofold—a great setting and a problem that it was totally plausible for teenaged boys to resolve. The setting is a ski lodge that’s having financial problems and is owned and operated by the family of a friend of a friend. I don’t ski myself, but I find ski lodges to be a great setting for mysteries because they are instantly isolatable with the onset of a good storm. That’s what happens here, but not before some low-key trouble begins to flair up at the lodge. Someone removes a sign warning of dangerous conditions on a ski slope. Small items owned by the guests begin to disappear. And the world’s most annoying customer is getting on everyone’s nerves by finding fault with anyone and everything. Then the snowstorm sets in and the lodge quickly depopulates as people flee the storm. This conveniently (and plausibly) lowers the number of suspects as the problems become more serious and the boys begin to suspect that someone is sabotaging the ski lodge—but why? This is a good mystery from the start to finish and the solution lives up to the hype.

Saboteur on the Loose
This book is kind of easy to figure out if you have read a lot of Hardy Boys books.Still, It's quite exciting trapped in a blizzard with only a dozen suspects you would think it would be easy to figure out the culprit. But with weirdn things happening such as, ice on the stairs, danger signs missings, and glass in the breakfast waffles and different people missing at each act of sabotage it keeps you in suspense to the end.I also think you should buy the first of The Hardy Boys Adventures: Secret of the Red Arrow.
