Go for it. It can absorb water up to 200-400 times. 1 spoon is enough for 1/2 litre water. You can create snow, fill jars etc. I am using it for planting flowers. I am little concerned about long term effect, so I didnt use it for vegetables. I mixed with cocopeat, bio fertilizer and put it in a pot and planted some flowering plants. I will update after one month. If you are going to use it as potting mixture first check a small quantity with enough water. Add fertilizer and other ingredients and wait for some time. Mostly it will release some water. Yousing this as potting mixture you can avoid watering your plant for some days. But always take precaution with edible items. Important, before opening the packet use a good mask, and do not allow kids near the product. Once it inhaled or swallowed in dust or crystal form it will expand inside your body and make breathing troubles. After adding water it is relatively safe. But still take care of kids and pets.
