It's a bit hard for 2nd grader but it is OK.
I bought this book for my 2nd grade daughter to prepare for her cogat test. Her teacher said there is nothing to prepare but I still found this book. Before I let her try, I myself tried all the questions. It is fun to practice using the brain and figure out how to solve each problem. She tried and kind of like it at first then it gets harder and harder. I tried my best to explain the questions and the way to solve those to let her see what kind of questions she would expect during the real test. She just finished her test and she said actually this book is kind of harder than her real test. I will see how it goes after her grade comes back in a couple of months and my update this review.

Kiddo was very happy with her results; Parent was skeptical about the causal effect
After taking the CogAT tests in 1st grade and failing to qualify for gifted services in the spatial domain, my daughter requested to re-take the spatial test in 2nd grade. In the first grade, she scored in the 55th percentile in spatial (she needed to score in the 97th percentile to qualify for services), so she wasn't even close. I agreed to support her - even though i thought it was an incredibly long shot - and purchased her this book (to show my support). She did the spatial portion of the book - there were questions she could not answer, and a few questions I could not figure out how to get to the correct answer either (in at least 1 of them, I was convinced that the answer key was wrong). After completing the spatial portion of the practice tests, she took the assessment at school and scored in the 99th percentile (effectively qualifying for additional gifted services). As a parent: never underestimate the power of your kiddo's determination. As a scholar: I just can't believe the improvement was due solely to the book.Still, my child (who was determined to get more gifted services) found the practice tests empowering.

Great Prep Book
We purchased this book along with Mercer's offering and Bright Minds Book (CogAT grade 2) for our two kids applying for Gifted Programs. Both our kids scored highly in the COGAT and got admitted into the gifted program. From our experience both the smart Cookie Inc books for grade 2 were the best (Practice test 1 and 2)Then in our opinion came the Bright Minds book. The mercer book is the most expensive and at best is equivalent to the Bright Minds book which is much cheaper. What these books do is give the kids experience for the potential types of questions that may come into the exam and sharpen their mind to think and analyze data based on the principles of these formats. These books will very likely help your kids get higher scores then they would otherwise and if they are on the bubble it will likely get them through. What these books will not do is to get them into the gifted category if they do not have the innate abilities that match that designation

Good practice book for 7 yrs old - beginning of 2nd grade Cogat test
I bought this as a practice test for my 7 yrs old, for her beginning of 2nd grade Cogat test at school. I liked it, I thought the level of difficulty was appropriate and the format of the test was good. Some say you can not practice for the Cogat test, but I would like to say it does help to practice a bit. It familiarizes the kids with the type of questions they get and the 9 categories they get tested on. My child was absolutely helped by the practice tests. For this book, I only wish it had a bubble answer sheet at the end that I could copy and use when administered the test. I had to create my own. Still, definitely recommend the book for practice. Also recommend the Bright Minds Publishing Cogat Practice Test (Grade 2).

Seems to have worked well!
We got this for our son (1 grade) when we were applying to private school. He had to take the WISC assessment and, while this was not specifically for that, we wanted him to try a few of these so that he would see that there is nothing about which he needed to be nervous. He did very well on his assessment and will be attending the school to which we applied next year. He did find these to be kind of fun little puzzles to do too!

Good collection and cover all topics
Content is satisfactory. Inside all pages are black and white only, it would be nice and clear to have colorful pictures at least ( few question's figures are not clear due to black and white); however book cover is solid and colorful.Answer key section has only answer number, for answers of some specific questions should have brief description as well for better understanding.

Helped me at the right time!
Got this book for my sons cogat testing at school, helped him with getting an idea of the test and it is a good book. Can't stop at this though, but this is a good start for the format.

Worked well for our second grade daughter. We had ...
Worked well for our second grade daughter. We had her answer on a separate sheet of paper and she was able to do this test practice multiple times over the summer and beginning of the school year. Her test scores were in the 99 percentile and she was accepted into the Highly Capable Services program.
