Celestron 71426 Cavalry 15x70 Binocular (Olive Green)

These binoculars are great they provide a clear sharp image. The GPS is an added bonus and yes it works. The weight is not too bad they are a military grade binocular, the ranging reticle is useful and the instruction booklet gives you the formulas for the various ways to use it. The lens caps and dust cap are sturdy and attached. I will probably put a better neck strap on as that is the only thing I don't like in the whole unit.I have used these out in the desert since I bought them and really like the performance.I have recommended these to my friends.

I purchased the Calvary 15X70 binoculars (item 71426) with great anticipation to improve my celestial viewing experiences. Unfortunately, they came with a collimation (i.e. alignment) issue. For example, the double star in the handle of the "Big Dipper" showed up as 4 stars. Through Amazon, it was suggested that I contact Celestron directly. I did. The phone message for Celestron technical support last Friday morning indicated "We are closed for a company event". I got the same message for that afternoon. So, I left a message in their web site and got a confirmation code last Friday. I got the same response to telephone contact on Saturday and Sunday. This morning (9-16-2013) I called again and got the same message. And, there has been no follow up from their web site as of noon today.It appears to me their production has far exceeded their capacity to service their products. My fix is relatively simple, yet they don't want their customers to attempt the solve the alignment problems. The Catch 22 is that the warranty is void if the customer attempts correction yet, you can't contact them about what to do. Bottom line, they won't support a service to correct product quality issues.I find the optics are very good. But, given the above, having to use only one eye in binoculars is unacceptable. Because of the warranty and product support issues, I am returning them to Amazon. Plus, I am researching a new telescope to purchase and it certainly will not be of the Celestron brand.Be careful.

I received the binoculars on time and well packaged. However, what a disappointment! Although the optics are wonderfully clear and distortion free, and the individual focus controls easy and smooth, the electronics didn't work. I followed the instruction manual to the letter, and installed the provided battery. Tried to power up as indicated by pressing the power button, but nothing happened, the LCD screen remained black. Then I noticed that the battery compartment was overheating. Double checked the battery polarity, reinstalled, with the same negative results. I decided to return and exchange the binoculars, as this unit is probably defective (my luck!). Fortunately Amazon returns are not complicated, and I received approval and the corresponding shipping label to return these binoculars. Quality control failure in the Celestron factory? We'll see when I receive the replacement binoculars, but I hope that the electronics work on those! Celestron 71422 Cavalry 7x50 GPS Binocular (Olive Green) UPDATE on the replacement, Sept. 21, 2016: I received a replacement order for the same model of binoculars within four days of requesting it. This Celestron Cavalry 7x50 binoculars arrived in perfect condition and work great. The main reason I chose this model is because of its built-in GPS unit. Both the digital compass and the GPS work as described, and are accurate enough for my needs in coastal navigation. I had to get used to pressing the on/off button to fix a position or a compass bearing once I had the target object under the reticle, but once accustomed to this, I was able to use the bearings and GPS position to track my course on the chart with as much accuracy as with a hand-held compass and my other GPS unit. The GPS readings vary just a bit as compared with my Garmin unit, but the differences are minor for my purposes. As mentioned before, the optics are great and the reticle and calculating dial are very useful, and as accurate as your reference heights and calculations. I give the binoculars four stars because of the defective first unit I received.

We received our binoculars Saturday January 25, 2014 and our town had snowfest fireworks that evening. We used the binoculars to view them from our house and it was fantastic, the image was superb. They were easy to focus and the softeye piece was comfortable even for my spouse who wears glasses. We also used them to watch birds and liked the nice rainguard cover to protect the eyepieces when not in use. We also like the texture of them, easy to hold on too. Once we go hiking we know we will love the built in compass, gps mode and that you can calucate the objects size. We highly recommend these binoculars, they exceeded our expectations.

Great binocular, but too much chromatic aberration for stargazing.In particular, when I look at bright planets I was so disappointed.Also, the tripod adapter is very low-quality.Even when I equipped it on a tripod, the image is shaking so much that I can't see clearly, because the tripod adapter is so wobbly.

Gutes Fernglas mit klarer Sicht

Ormai è quasi un anno dall'acquisto del celestron, devo dire che ho comprato anche un treppiede, assolutamente necessario per osservare sia di giorno che di notte (luna e crateri). Che dire la qualità è discreta a centro campo e peggiora a bordo campo, la messa a fuoco è un po' difficoltosa, molto luminoso alla sera, colori tendenti leggermente sul freddo. Per il costo di poco più di 110 euro non si può certo pretendere l'impossibile...se li vale tutti. il mio esemplare era collimato.

Nach dem Auspacken fiel mir sofort auf, dass die Okulare verschmiert waren und die Augenmuscheln brüchig waren. Ich bezweifle, dass dies ein Neugerät war. Außerdem hatte der Stativadapter schon einen Riss.Damit hätte ich bei dem Preis von 77€ leben können. Das Glas machte einen guten Eindruck. Es war scharf und für die Größe auch recht leicht. Naturbeobachtungen am Tag und in der Dämmerung machten richtig Spass. Aber die Ernüchterung kam beim ersten klaren Nachthimmel. Soviele Sterne hatte ich noch nie gesehen. Alles doppelt. Da ich es hauptsächlich für Astrobeobachtung verwenden wollte, war es für mich nicht brauchbar. Zumal mich eines auch sehr gestört hat. Die Augenmuscheln sind sehr hart und stehen weit heraus. Man muss sie regelrecht ins Auge pressen, um ein grosses Sichtfeld zu erreichen. Der Augenabstand ist so gering, dass ich mir ständig die Nase eingeklemmt habe. Also ging es leider Retour.Fazit: Nettes Teil mit Schwächen. Wer mit den miesen Augenmuscheln leben kann und ein richtig justiertes Glas bekommt, wird viel Spass haben. Man sollte aber gleich einen ordentlichen Stativadapter dazu kaufen. Der mitgelieferte ist Mist.

Brill binoculars nice clear view little bit heavy but they are quite big would definitely recommend
