I like how the metal dies not have edges that would tear the pasta. I bought one in the past that is so rustic that it has a wooden handle and the wire strainer gets the pasta caught in it.

I and my wife are quite pleased with this strainer. We bought the 4" version for penne and rigatoni pasta in a similarly sized pot. It was just right. No more pouring over the sink with a strainer in your hand, etc. Much safer and easier of course. Ours was $8 and well worth it.Easily handled the weight of the pasta...sturdy along the handle. Wonderful with removing meatballs from sauce, too. No bending or sign of bending whatsoever.Our basket measured 4 1/2 inches at the top ( not 4" ) and the basket itself was 1 1/4 inches deep at the deepest point. I love it. It is not too big and I can use it for many things from straining my pasta to staining my home made periogi.Easy cleaning.

This strainer is sturdy and well made. I like the 4" size for use in small batch deep frying.

I bought this to use for taking poached eggs out of the hot water once they are done, and it does a wonderful job. Most of the excess water can drain, and then I place them on a paper towel to finish absorbing any extra water. Also use it for pasta, usually penne or other small pasta, not the long pasta which we drain in a colander. Highly recommend.

LOVE this strainer. Comfortable to use while frying food, very sturdy. I first used it to fry tempura, it was caked with dry tempura batter & cooking oil, took NO time or effort to wash it.

Better than using your hands. Also works for gently scooping hamsters and mice from the tub after swim time.
