I bought this Unitek adapter to rescue files from a couple of ancient IDE drives I found in storage. Setup was incredibly easy, just plug and play. The one-touch backup button is a handy bonus, but I mostly used it for straight data transfers. I was really glad the kit includes a 12V power adapter, because 3.5 inch drives absolutely need it. It also worked flawlessly with a modern SATA SSD. Speeds were solid, and it recognized every drive instantly. Build quality feels decent for the price. I would recommend this to anyone who needs to access old hard drives or quickly clone a drive without opening their PC. A simple, effective tool that does exactly what it promises.

This thing is great. I had SATA and IDE drives that I had laying around and needed to find out what was on them. It was relatively easy to use lining up the IDE slot was a little tedious because I couldn't quite tell if I need to go right or left more to line up all the pins. It worked as expected. Good purchase.

It works. I had an 8TB Seagate HDD die on me. The Seagate tools didn't seem to do anything and when they did they showed nothing wrong but the drive wouldn't mount. I didn't throw it away but it wasn't working. Then I came upon an add for something similar to this device and thought I'd give it a try. I broke the HHD out of the case and plugged it directly into the drive, connected it to my computer, and then connected a new drive to the computer. The 8TB broke drive booted up immediately and popped up on the computer. No issues. I was able to move everything over to a new drive. Now I have to decide if I want to keep this old 8TB and put it in a new case, since it still works! I recommend this as an inexpensive/last ditch way to save an old drive. I was told by a tech friend that hard drives are more reliable than we think and that the weak link is frequently the connection boards shorting out.

My overall experience with this product has been quite satisfactory, so far. A couple of things, though. First, the transfer speed is very good. Although, as an example, I've transferred several videos from my 2TB Western Digital hard drive - formerly a 'MyBook' external drive - to other drives. A single video of about 780MB to 1GB will transfer in seconds at 100MB. When I transfer more than two - say 4 - videos in one operation, the transfer speed slows considerably, down from 100MB a second to as low as 19MB a second. I'm not complaining, just telling you what I noticed. All I really care about is a successful transfer, which has been accomplished every time. I've successfully connected to and transferred files from 2 other IDE internal drives, which are quite old and were also a part of the Dell tower that crashed on me. The only other thing I'll speak to is the IDE DVD/CD player I've attempted to connect to with no joy. The LED light blinking is a pretty good indication that the reader is trying to make it work. Also, the vibrations I feel when I place my hand on the player is another indication that the reader is trying to do its job. However, the player disk drawer will not open to allow me to do anything more. To be fair, this player caused me problems even when I had it in the original tower it was installed in. Perhaps it's just time to retire it. One other thing about the DVD player is something more of a question than anything else. What do I do for audio? There's an audio out connector from the player to the motherboard in the old tower setup. There's no such connection I can see with the reader. I suppose that if it worked the way I expected, transferring videos or whatever to another source wouldn't be a problem, yeah? As I stated earlier, I very happy with the product. If not for the situation with my DVD/CD player, I would have given it a five star rating. I'd recommend it to others, regardless. Thank you for the work you put into making it available. Returned because my computer would never recognize the device. I’m sure it is a good product when a person can get it to work . Seller did a great job providing us a refund.

Inconsistent function--would not work for old (mid 90s) Western Digital IDE 3.5 HDDs (reported no media to computer), worked for one somewhat old (2006) Seagate SATA 3.5 HDD but not another of the same model, whereas another adapter had no difficulties with either Seagate drive. Internal software appears to be less than universal for older models. I upgraded my review by one star after trying this adapter on more modern drives. It seems to be doing fine with WD 3.5 SATA drives from 2016

I had a bunch of old family photos on a hard drive I had pulled from an old family PC. We thought the photos were already in the cloud but they were not. Bought this to try to fire up an over 20yo IDE drive and it worked great. Recovered all the photos, thousands of them. Worth every penny. Glad I kept the drive just in case.

Brilliant, easy to use, saved the day when the computer self destructed. Quick and easy to recover the contents of the hard drive to another computer. It’s nice and compact to keep now in the draw incase we ever need to use again, and wasn’t overly expensive considering the fact it saved all the data off the computer without having to pay a computer shop to try recover it.

My very old DELL Windows XP computer refused to start up, and I was convinced that all was lost. In a desperate last attempt, I decided to use this adapter kit to connect the IDE HD to my new Windows 11 computer via a USB cable. To my absolute amazement, the old hard drive that had been sitting idle on my counter sprang back to life. While I can't speak for the cloning feature since I haven't tried it yet, this adapter kit has proved to be nothing short of amazing. It has given my ancient hard drive a new lease on life and allowed me to access all the valuable data stored on it.
