WW2 England ace pilot with no feet. Real history.
Bader was a double amputee from a plane accident years before the war. Went to become a WW2 ace. He also defined the WW2 air tactics, based on WW1 tactics. A good book for a new amputee because it shows that proper ATTITUDE. WW2 readers will love this.

12 year old devoured it
Our 12 year old grandson is a WWII buff and military history lover. We saw this book on a list of recommended books. Given it's publication date it seemed a responsible choice for him; we did skim the pages after it arrived to be sure the content was within their family's values for a pre-teen. He had already heard of Douglas Bader and was excited to have such a long story to read about him. The book was devoured within a week. He really enjoyed it.

an unbelievable man and his courage
all one can say about Douglas Bader and his comrades is we thank you. Winston Churchill put it best, I'm sure he was referring to men like Bader. "Never was so much owed by so many to so few"! if you want to know about the few and their friends, this one is required reading.

Wow! What a story!
Bader was first most an artist in the air. He knew the rules of flying and how to bend them to his advantage. The book is essentially 3 stories: before the war and up to losing his legs, his war time exploits up to being shot down, and then in captivity always making like difficult for his captors, the Huns. I doubt one could write a movie script this engaging and real. People today would say "Oh that could never happen!"The author, himself a RAF pilot, writes of each phase of Bader's flying life in a very readable manner. This book is hard to put down once one starts.

I met this man when I was a teenager and ...
I met this man when I was a teenager and member of Air Cadet squadron 395 in Edmonton. The book had so many details of Douglas Bader that enhanced the war story.
