Useful Book for Gardening by the Moon and how it makes a difference.
This book contains the moon's phases for timing, planting, trimming, and harvesting. There are lots of photos and information on gardening to review. I also go to The Old Farmers Almanac for actual dates to plant, weed, trim and more. Years ago, I planted by moon phases, and my garden was the showplace of the neighborhood. Our lawns are brown, and I water the trees and some pots. With the drought in California, I need all the help I can get.

A general gardening book, not a useful monthly guide
Lots of varied information for beginners, like fertilizers, pest, diseases, etc. Good amount of photos. But much of the content is not directly related to the month therefore fells generic and less useful. Also the problem is that California is a very big place. Maybe someone in NoCal can grow peas in July as suggested by the book, but the advice is useless to SoCal gardeners.

If you like to garden and like information this book is helpful
I'm an avid Gardner but still like to check info. After I got this I sent some as gifts. I do wish there was also info on planting vegetables.

Best guide to California gardening!
This is the most informative guide to California gardening I have ever used. The author provides 240 pages of month-by-month solid advice about when to do what in the garden. Although I have been a gardener in California for 40 years, I still wonder when is the best time of year to plant, prune and maintain all the different plants in my garden. I have often been fearful of pruning anything before the frost is over, but this book makes it clear that many trees and shrubs can be pruned in the winter and early spring making my annual maintenance cycle more manageable. This book is a great investment!
