This trimmer has the following variety of settings:# 1 Stubble length (2 mm)# 2 Short (4 mm)# 3 Medium short (6 mm)# 4Medium  (8 mm)# 5Long Medium  (10 mm)# 6 Long (12 mm)This information is indicated by the manual. but I only use the smallest (2 mm) and then use the Dual Shaver, included with the trimmer, for a full shave. if the battery is totally dead will it fully work right away if it is plugged in to an outlet without having to wait?

As others have said, it WILL NOT WORK if the battery was dead and you just plugged it in.  Apparently the charging circuit is primary inline for the wall power and is there to charge the battery only and not to power the clippers.  If you take the battery out of the equation then the clippers will not work.  I have had it where the battery was dead, I plugged it in for a few minutes and then tried to use the clippers.  It runs for maybe 45 seconds and then dies.  You have to let it charge the battery up to some level of charge before it will work long enough to do the job.  And the battery, although it says it is Li ion, has very little capacity or shelf life.

Yes it comes with a cord to charge it. You cannot run the trimmer from the power cord only though. Only from the battery once it's charged :(

does the charger work on worldwide 220 voltage?

Accepted Answer

No.  Because I have a history of burning out US appliances when traveling overseas, without any specific plans in mind I replaced the power supply/charger with one that accepted variable input voltage (110v-240v AC) and had an output of 5v.  If you decide to do this, be sure that the output of your replacement power supply is 4.6v and equal or greater than 600mA.  Also, the diameter of the standard barrel-shaped plug used on many 12v power supplies will be too great.  For this, I secured an adapter from Radio Shack (Amazon stocks these for less than $1).  The cost?  About $10
