Q: what does it mean removable washable cover, there is no way you can remove the cover, please advise

if yours is like mine, it will have a silky, shiny inner part,(mine is red) bound round the edges with the same dull black fabric as the outer part. This silky side, which lays over your eyes is in one piece. The outer part has what looks like a seam running across ,(slightly angled,) from the top to the bottom, being held in place by the binding. This "seam" is not stitched down, but gives access to the inner bag. Pull it apart, and you can feel the inner container and it can be pulled out. Pull the shorter length 1st the allow the filling beads to trickle through to the part you have pulled out, then the rest of the bag can also be pulled out easily. If you have done it once, you will see that it is easy. The Outer bag does need to be washed regularly to maintain hygiene, as teardrops and/or grease, will escape during your 10 minute treatments.

Q: Does this only work in the microwave?

This is designed for the microwave, but all the microwave does is heat it up. Any heat source will do this , but not accurately and not safely! The only reasonably safe alternative that I can think of would be on a radiator which is never set to get really hot. I would not trust any cooking oven, as the exterior fabric might catch on fire. Microwaves can be bought almost as cheaply as the compress, why not just get a microwave?
