So delicious
Just getting into lentils and these are delicious. Great to throw in a crock pot with broth and seasoning. Cook low and slow until you get a bean like consistency and they are amazing!

Fast and delicious
After trying Dishoom's black daal dish a year ago (it's a restaurant in London, and a signature dish, google it!), I have been making a home version of their daal in an instant pot. I sought out the urad / black daal previously, made a special trip to a local indian store to buy them. Those 2 lbs were quickly consumed as this recipe is fabulous. I needed more daal, but every time I stopped by the local Indian grocery, they were closed (late opening, some weekdays they were closed...). Amazon came to my rescue - they looked good, cooked up fine, no small stones found (you're supposed to check before cooking in general). Tasty, glad I bought this!

Not fresh
I soaked this dal for a very long time but half of the dal didn’t soak any water. It soaked for a total of 48 hours but only half of it is edible. I have seen this before with very old dal but this one doesn’t expire for more than 2 years. It seems like some old dal was reworked into fresh stuff. The beans that managed to absorb water tasted good, but I had to spend a lot of time picking out the bad ones. I guess you get what you pay for. Next time I’ll spend a little more for some premium dal.

NOT gluten friendly - misleading description
Product described as gluten friendly. It is not. Images on Amazon do not show the allergy warning. Processed on machinery that also handles wheat. Product description and photos on Amazon are misleading

Package arrived open and spilled within the Amazon package
I was looking forward to trying these urad beans, but the plastic bag within the Amazon box arrived open and the beans had spilled out into the box. Since we didn't know WHEN the package had been opened (in the warehouse? Exposed to insects? Mice? etc.?) we had to dispose of the whole thing.

Good, BUT - a few random rock hard, un-cooked beans (but I was offered a refund)
I don't know what the frick happened. (update: I was offered a full refund for this. The seller said it was a really bad batch, and they try not to let it happen)The first time I cooked these, I got a few rock hard beans that, like, almost chipped tooth. I thought it was an accident somehow. So I've been careful since then to make sure all the beans are underwater and not stuck to the spatula.I feel like it one batch was good, but then today I found another rock hard bean after cooking a new batch. And I was being very aware and careful this time. I don't know what is going on. They're very small beans, is it possible that I keep missing a random bean every time that gets mixed in again without being cooked at all? These random beans are rock hard. Like a pebble.
