All the books were informative
All the books just proved that mass murders have been around for centuries. Some done with guns and others dgone with knives, bricks, lead pipes...etc. Doesn't make a difference the weapon, mass murders maybe inflicted by any weapon, wielded by maniacs or manic depressive or just axe wielding out of their heads criminals.

I like how these books just give a short overview.
Rather than go into pages and pages of details. I like how these books focus on a moment and just give the basics. Leaving it open to find more books on the subject. Plus, because they are so short, I don't find myself bored.

Fascinating story of pioneer crime and murder…
It is only recently that I had heard anything about the Bender family and now they seem to be everywhere. Harold Schechter gives us all the facts. Thank you Mr. Schechter for bringing it and involving a childhood favorite Laura Ingalls Wilder and he Pa.

Great mini book about The Bloody Benders
Riveting mini book that tells about The Bender Family, that turned out to be a family of serial killers and killed innocent people who stopped at their house/store on The Osage Trail and then disappeared. After the Benders vanished the local authorities searched their home and found the bodies of people that The Benders murdered so that they could rob them. The Benders were never found again. Rumor has it that they were killed by vigilantes who will never tell about what they did to them.

Great story but short!
The story of the Benders, a mysterious foursome who murdered guests unlucky enough so seek shelter in their Kansas tavern, has all the makings of a great book (and even a great movie). From uncertainty over whether they were actually all related, to speculations of incest, to the daughter's supposed mediumship, lecturing on the occult, and communication with spirits, to the actual murders themselves and the mystery of the Benders' ultimate fate, and the teaser that Laura Ingalls Wilder's "Pa" may have stopped at the bender tavern and even might have participated in vigilante justice against the killers....there is much that might have made this book a cliffhanger! From the bibliography at the end, it's clear that the author did his research, and I can only guess that, despite the numerous sources he used, the information on this "family" of serial killers is just amazingly sparse. There were so many aspects to their story that I wish were filled out more, and I'm assuming there just isn't enough in the original sources to make that possible. It's very short, maybe an hour's read, very well-written but leaving me wanting to know more!

interesting
Interesting little books, but not captivating by any means, at least not so far. They are quite odd, but worth a read a guess, so you can say you did.

Was the Bender Family, America’s first Serial Killers?
The Bender Family had at least a weeks head start from when their crimes were discovered, so I believe that they escaped justice completely. Without photographs and other evidence it was unlikely that they would have been captured.

Quick Read
This well-researched grisly true story is the perfect length if you need something in between activities or longer reads. The story is loaded with uncertainty, speculation, and tales from people who simply wanted to be part of it. The book is short and as informative as possible given the uncertainty of the story since it started.

Good summary
This was a good little summary, quite gritty in places. It gives a relatively detailed account of the events around the house of crime, and also goes into some detail about the family and the times in which they lived. There are extensive notes and a decent bibliography. The illustrations add an extra dimension, and if you can unfocus your eyes to create a stereoscopic image, the original house will jump off the page.
