I can't say it's my favorite historical coloring book
I purchased this coloring book because it is used in one of our history curriculums. I can't say it's my favorite historical coloring book, but there's nothing overwhelmingly wrong with it. Favorite or not, it will be used, and I'm sure the kids won't complain. 4 stars for being nice, but not the best out there.

Fun as add-on to history curriculum
We are using it for homeschooling. My daughter colors a page related to what I am reading to her for her Middle Ages history curriculum. She retains information better if she is doing some kind of art while listening.

Not a keeper
Wanted to try Bellerophon coloring books. I LOVE Dover coloring books and own over 60. I ordered 3 Bellerophon titles and was disappointed in all 3! My advice go with Dover.

Great book for people interested in the middle ages.
I bought this one for my son and he loves this book. I finally found something that gets him away from the video games.

Simplisitic drawings
I was disappointed with the simple, comic-like drawings in this book. I found more detailed, real-life, and accurate pictures by doing a simple online search. This book is used for a home school curriculum we use (History Odyssey), and I had decided to buy another, similar coloring book (Middle Ages from Dover Coloring) instead of this one. After a few weeks of trying to find similar pictures in the other book, I gave up and ordered this one. The pictures, which are drawings of actual art from the Middle Ages, aren't horrible (except the one of Charlemagne; who drew that one, a 12 year old?) but they aren't that great either. ( Maybe that's just the way Middle Ages pictures are...?) My kids like the book, so I will use it, but I won't waste my money again on a coloring book before trying an image search online.

Uninspired and Ugly
I bought this book as it is required for Pandia Press' History Odyssey, Middle Ages, Level One curriculum. When I read the other reviews, I thought to myself, how bad can a coloring book be? It has the ugliest artwork of any coloring book we have ever owned. The drawings look like I did them with my left hand (I am right handed) in that the lines are wiggly and sort of drunken. This book completely lacks the enticing details that make other coloring books for medieval times fun and beautiful.Even if it meant that on some lessons we did not have an appropriate drawing, I would definitely choose another book over this one.

It's a coloring book. It's hard not to do it passably well.

A good buy
When teaching young children, it's sometimes good to give them something to do as you read about the period in history. I've been surprised at how much has been retained while they've been colouring in the Medieval outlines.
