Works with Lion
I had reservations about buying this because of reported incompatibilities with Timemachine and Mac OSX Lion. There is a firmware update you can download from iomega that fixes any of these issues. I got this yesterday and today I've got 3 Mac Machines (2 snow leopards and 1 Lion) backing up to the box.The software is very polished, like the active folders, iSCSi, etc. Much more than I thought I'd be getting... I'll be playing with the cloud capabilities shortly, there's ton of features to play with.I'll be using this primarily for a VMWare lab as a iSCSI disk, but with all the other uses, I'll be using it for more.I also like the ability to set quotas.A definite recommend.

These drives simply do not work.
I bought 2 of these drives. One 8TB, and one 12TB. The 12TB drive never worked out of the box. After spending HOURS with technical support we found that drive 3 was bad. They sent a replacement. Put it in and thought... yay I can finally play on this thing! No. Went into the software to do a default reset and the unit crapped out completely. After several more hours troubleshooting they tell me I have to pay $50 for a replacement and wait 3-5 business days. The second drive did work. But TimeMahine with Lion does not function. RAID 10? DOES NOT WORK. Which is the entire reason I bought this specific drive because RAID 10 is supposed to work. These drives would be great if they worked as they should and all the features they advertise work. Unfortunately they don't, nor do they take the necessary steps to replace broken drives in a timely manner.UPDATE: Had to send the entire drive back which was BRAND NEW. Then they have the nerve to send me a refurbished one without a power cord. Now I am waiting for a power cord. I understand that sometimes gear like this is broken right from the get-go, however they need to do what is right to get a NEW drive to the customer in a timely manner.

Hard drives aren't stable
We've had this unit for about 2 months at our office and the drives have somehow unseated themselves 3 times. Each time they unseat, I have to shut off the unit and turn it back on. Then the NAS takes 3 days to rebuild all the data because of all the data on the NAS. It's ridiculous how bad this thing is. The good thing is, the data is not lost and the data is rebuilt fine. But the stability of the hardware is a bit of a joke. I did contact customer support and they sent me another drive in exchange, but it's not the drive. 2 different drives on the unit unseated so it appears to be a connection issue to the motherboard itself.

Doesn't do what it promises
I bought this machine for two reasons. 1) My old NAS was failing and 2) it touted its "iTunes server" streaming functionality. As a NAS, it seems to work fine...others can speak better to what it can and can't do. As far as I'm concerned, it stores all my files just fine. The problem for me is that the "iTunes server" is not a server. You still need to have your PC on to have your AppleTV talk to it. What's more, you can't install software like the PLEX system on it because it's not compatible with this system. My message to you is to make sure you do your homework before buying whatever product you feel is best for you.

Great product for the price
I ordered the iOmega StorCenter ix4-200d 8T to replace my aging Western Digital 2T storage at home. I was particularly looking for RIAD5 protection, and after plenty of research decided for the iOmega. The StoreCenter is attached to my home gigabit network. Unfortunately, when I received the drive. it did not work right away; it had the dreaded Firmware problem many people in the forum talk about, but in the end a fix was available without having to sent the drive back (see below at the end of the review). The main purpose for the iOmega StorCenter at my home is:- Back-Up centre of documents, pictures and data of two home PC's- Streaming of Music (via iTunes)- Streaming of HD video to 2 TV's (Via Apple Mini PC's for each TV)In all most the device is meeting my expectations:+ Excellent build quality+ Excellent storage for the buck+ Low noise+ Runs very cool+ Good Performance level on RAID5+ Very good user interface+ Useful options (Security, iCloud integration etc.)+ Easy access to the drivesImprovement opportunity:- Blue back-lit display is not clear- The device was delivered with an FW problem (set-up issues). Had to reload (with help of chat support) new firmware before I could use itI have been using the StorCenter for 1 month now, and have really started to appreciate this device. Despite the initial Frmwae problem with the device, I can advice it for anyone that use it like I do; you will not be disappointed.UPDATE: Bit more detail on the FW problem that I faced (as it now appears, many other people do so). If you have the below symptoms than you may need to reload the Firmware via the USB stickSymptoms:- cannot create shares (spooling error)- The device is not recognised in the network as a storage device; any option in the storage manager that requires the drive access gives some kind of error- no errors in the self test- Anything you try to do with the drive seems not to workIt took me 4 interventions with iOmega chat support to get the resolution. The frustrating thing is that despite it appears many people face the same issue, still the iOmega support website is not mentioning this error and resolution. Neither did iOmega chat support come up with a quick diagnoses; I was guided trough days of diagnosing and rebuilding the drives before they sent the new Firmware and update instructions... I almost ended up sending the drive for a full refund! I hope this helps anyone who faces this Firmware problem.
