MESSMER's MC-500-1 NAT INC MC-500-1 Gallon Natural UV Wood Finish

After a decade of finding a reliable wood finish, I have reduced it all down to Messmers.I live in a solar harsh (high mountain elevation), high wind and snow environment.Refinishing here runs the gamut from a year to 5 years depending.Messmers is deliverance from my environmental challenges. It stands up to high solar, high wind (reaching 103mph this past winter!), weeks of snow cover, yada yada.Pros: easy to apply, dries fairly fast in comparison to other name brands, some that remain sticky weeks afterward and attract dust, insects, pollen and grit like a magnent!Application by brush, roller, spray; I have done all 3 with excellent coverage and results.Viscosity is "thin", as compared to other known brands that have the consistency of pancake syrup. Penetrates extremely well.Dried finish is CONSISTENTLY (emphasis) satin, not gloss as often happens with competition stains with multiple applications.A decent variety of color tones, though limited to semi-trans and semi-solids.Easy clean-up: mineral spirits. After spraying Messmers, I "shoot" a cup of mineral spirits through my spray gun and put it aside for another project.Their "Natural" tone turns most anything, eg, cedar, redwood, etc) an orange tinge, but not obnoxious. In fact, if you spray untreated cedar or redwood with just water, you get something similar. I recycle wood (cedar and redwood) for numerous projects, and enjoy the Messmers effect on highlighting grains.

Although they would not ship this product to me in western Colorado I was able purchase it locally. Only been on about a week, so not sure about long term results. Used it on a small IPE deck. 1/2 gallon did the whole deck, rails, and stairs. Found it best to use a sponge or washcloth to apply. Be sure to wipe excess off as you go so it does not pool and get tacky. They tell you to wipe with cleanish towel 30 minutes after application. As you can see in photos, the natural enhanced the woods redish/orange color. If you desire a more brown hue to your IPE, I would suggest maybe a walnut, or oak finish rather than natural.

We have a fairly new dock built on saltwater and heated by the Florida sun. It’s only a year old and my husband treated it with Thompsons water seal and it looked horrible this winter. Grey and splintering. I ordered a gallon of the UV Plus/Natural and the application was very easy and it dried quickly in the direct sun. We liked this product so much, I just ordered another gallon. Good product at a great price, and free shipping too!!!!

Cans arrived damaged and leaking. Biggest thing it is hard to image it is natural color. Contacted Messmer customer service, which is very responsive, and they looked at the picture and they said the color is correct. The finish is easy to apply and is consistent. Frustrated that it is not what I think as a natural color. See the picture.Update June 2018 - After a couple of weeks the color had moderated to closer to a clear stain as customer service said it would. Still darker and I cannot understand why a few week the color becomes lighter. Hopefully it is not just washing off with the rain in the NW.

Best stain for fences I have ever used. Goes on easy and is formulated to last! Way better than water based stains.

Actually it was not clear and made my Ironwood a little darker than I wanted. Otherwise it worked great
