One of the great American boys' books of all time
One of my favorite children's books — I love reading this to my young son. The drawings are breathtaking, art.

4th Generations of Readers
I read this and many other Lois Lenski books as a child more than 65 yrs ago. My kids, grandkids, and now great grand nephew have read this little book.Miss Lenski was such a great writer that you felt her joy in the stories. The girl series were equally fun and entertaining. I recommend this and all of Lois Lenski's books

Sweet book
Got this book for my nephew and it was so sweet! The pages are easy to turn for a 1-2 year old.

A favorite.
This book is a favorite at our house. If your baby or toddler love planes, this is just the sweetest story. Really ideas about flight, simple illustrations… you can turn the book 360 degree when Pilot Small does the loop… so cute. Highly recommend. :)

Huge hit with our airplane-obsessed toddler
I bought this book for an 18 month old who adores big machines, especially airplanes and helicopters. I wanted to find an uncomplicated story that isn't just a nonfictional naming of airplane parts or patterns, but also didn't have too much text on the page. This little book is great for that - it tells the story of Pilot Small (sometimes "she" and sometimes "he" - the text says "he" but the drawings are fairly neutral, so I switch it up when reading with the kiddo) going to the hangar, fueling the plane, then flying over the countryside and returning home.At 18 months, our kid was happy to look at the airplane pictures and point out the little red car, and of course make sound effects. At 23 months, he can tell us more or less what's happening in the pictures (with sound effects!) and uses hand gestures or toys to act out parts where he can't pronounce the words. There's one page where Pilot Small does a loop, which tends to make him worried that Pilot Small will fall out - we often get stuck there because he tries to turn the book upside down to help Pilot Small, but when we turn the page, we've gone backwards in the story.I wasn't entirely sure how well this book would work when I bought it, but it has been a hit and is stored with the most requested books on the most easily accessible bookshelf. It will probably get rotated out soon, to give mom and dad a break, but it has definitely been the favorite of all of the airplane books given to the kid.

Very much a classic!
I am reading a board book a week and posting it over on YouTube for my grandaughter. She's two and lives in another state. Her mom mentioned she liked airplanes "this week" and so, this got added to the stacks. She enjoyed it and so did I.
